Hubby's denied for LapBand

Anybody else out there work for Denver Public Schools?  What a bunch of con artists!  My husband just found out that his ridiculously over-priced insurance has a bariatric surgery exclusion. I had my RNY in May, and we had this all planned out to do together.   My coverage was with Aetna but I had it through COBRA and my coverage just expired. This may sound like a strange question, but does anybody have any suggestions for good employers that offer insurance without WLS exceptions?  I would be willing to work just about anywhere, but  preferably at night.

Any suggestions? Thanks, Jennifer

I can certainly relate to your experience.  I work for Qwest and have UHC.  Qwest's infinite wisdom has written any WLS procedure into the exclusion.  I went to Dr. Georgescu's seminar last night and got lots of information about the process, but also found that that it is nearly impossible to appeal an exclusion.  Its not the insurance company that is balking, but the employer.  So right now my options are forget the whole thing or find other funding (loan, steal, beg).  I say 'nearly' because I suppose you could sue and go through a legal battle, but I don't think most of us are in a position where we could make that kind of fight happen. Best of luck to you and your husband. KRE

Ugh!!!  What exactly is the point of paying all of this money for insurance?  It's like extortion! (sp?) They know you can't NOT have ANY insurance, especially if you have a family, so they get as much money out of you and provide as little as possible!!   Personally, I think somebody's lining their pockets in DPS.  That's a huge organization (so is Qwest!) if they're going to have exclusions and the large copays that he has, we shouldn't have to pay over $800 a month for family coverage!  There is something wrong here. Best of luck to you....maybe we'll run into each other at our bank heist! Jennifer

Centura Health covers WLS, but it must be the RNY surgery, and it has be done through Penrose St. Francis in Colorado Springs. I am pretty sure their is  a Centura Facility in Denver As far as my experince goes so far they are very easy to get approved with.

I am pretty much halfway between Denver and the Springs so either way would work for me, but I'm not sure my husband would qualify for RNY, he's "only" got about 70 pounds to lose.  (to me, he's a toothpick!  I'm looking at about  150....well down to about 110 now, I suppose, after what I've already lost.....wow, I hadn't thought about that before.....)

The only medical training I have is transcription.  I don't know if I could get a job there or not.  I'll lookout for ads with job postings.

Thanks!

Jennifer

My hubby started working at Charles Schwab off of Dry Creek and University last August. We have Cigna OAP plan (the best they offer) and we only pay $98 a month for a family of 4. Charles Schwab hires anyone and has paid training. Maybe you could be a cutomer service rep or something. Oh, and they have all kinds of hours...even night shifts. Our plan has AMAZING coverage and I was approved for RNY in just 5 hours. I know they also cover Lap Band. As a CSR I think the starting pay is around 32k a year??? Just a thought. Good Luck to you and hubby!!! Morgan Lawlor

Hmmmm... now that is something to keep in mind.  I wonder if the Starbucks in Safeway stores count?

Thanks for the tip!

I have BCBS for the federal govt and just this year they started covering the lap band.  Isn't Dr Georgescue wonderful.  Who gave the seminar because he is on vacation,  he did my surgery and his whole office and the hospital is wonderful.  The HUT and the nurse from the hospital that you work with are all truely wonderful.  The federal govt where I work is always hireing.
