OT: Visiting DEN and Red Rocks

Hey there,   I am visiting Denver in August with some friends. My plans include a Rockies game and the Beastie Boys Concert at Red Rocks.  I can not wait!  I'm a long time Beasties fan and have always wanted to see a concert at Red Rocks so the combination will be insane.  A friend told me that you literally have to walk up about 2,000 stairs to get to the venue at Red Rocks...is that true?  I'll need to step up the workout big time to get through that.   What else would you suggest doing in Denver?  Is there anyone going or thinking about going to the BB concert? Not sure yet if I am going to be able to convince any of my friends to go to the concert so I may have an extra.   Thanks if any of you ever need Boston travel tip**** me up! Hugs, Cher

Hi Cher, You will love seeing the concert at Red Rocks, there is nothing like it! I didn't even know that the BB were coming in concert there!  I may have to check that out.  If you do end up with an extra ticket, let me know!   I am sure that you will do fine with the steps there! There is a variety of things to do in this area.  Depends on what types of things you like on what things there are to do.

Hey Missy,   I actually messed up my dates and won't even be out there for the Beasties show.  I am super bummed and feel like a fool.  Darn it.  The weekend I am there the 'String Cheese Incident' is playing at Red Rocks when I am there.  I can't say I know anything about them so I guess my trip to Red Rocks is also going to have to wait.    Thanks for being willing to come with me though...I'm thinking my friends wold not have been up to it.

Hope all is well with you.  It was over a 100 here in Boston today...we're not used to that here!  ~Cher

Hey, don't worry about that!  You will definitely have a great time when you are here! Chrystal had some great ideas on things to do and the water.  I have lived here my whole life and forget about that!  When is the 'String Cheese Incident' concert? I am going to several concerts this summer, and didn't notice that one either.  I guess I feel better about being out and it is so much fun to go and enjoy it instead of worrying about my size! Hope you are surviving the heat!  It is going to be getting up there here, but not for a couple more days.   Hugs, Dee

Hi, Cher! You should really enjoy Denver.  Colorado as a whole.  If you have time, get down to Colorado Springs.  There you can see Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Cheyenne Mtn. Zoo (nation's only mountain zoo) and a host of other sites.  If you stay in Denver, there is a nice museum and zoo there, too. One major suggestion, because there is such a altitude difference from MA to CO, up your water intake.  It will help you get aclimated (sp?).  7,000+ feet above sea level can do a number on you if you're not used to it.  The last thing you want when on vacation is altitude sickness. Enjoy, Crystal

Hey Crystal,   Thanks for the ideas.  I went up Pikes Peak (on the train) and to Garden of the Gods on a Colorado vaction a while back and both were incredibly beautiful.     I am excited about the trip...what a pretty state.  Good idea about the water intake.  I didn't even think about that in relation to the altitude.     Hope you are habving a great summer. ~Cher

Water makes a big difference.  If I go from Colorado Springs to a higher altitude (Denver doesn't count.  It's actually lower in altitude the the Springs) I really have to drink water.  More so than normal. I'm sorry I'm not more familiar with Denver tourist sites.  Maybe you could try Canon City and the Royal Gorge bridge.  Around the Denver area is Brown's palace.  Home of the Unsinkable Molly Brown.  Ft. Collins has a Budweiser brewery.  Even if you're not a beer drinker, it's interesting.  Boulder has the Coors brewery.  I'll keep thinking of other places.

Hi there!  I live in Colorado and can see Red Rocks from my back yard!  You don't have to attend a concert to go to Red Rocks... they're open most of the time so you can still see the whole Red Rocks museum and drive up the mountain from there and see Evergreen.... It's BEAUTIFUL!  You can also go to the Denver Zoo or visit the 16th street mall downtown.  You can see Coors Brewery in Golden Colorado or go gambling in Central City.  We have the Pepsi Center, Coors Ampitheater and several other venues for concerts - but nothing is better than Red Rocks! I hope you and your friends have a good time visting Colorado.... Just google "things to do in Denver" and you will get lots of suggestions.

Thank you so much for the suggestions.  We got tickets to see the String Cheese Incident at Red Rocks and I am so excited about it.  That must be a beutiful view you have to be able to see Red Rocks from you house.

I went and bougth some clothes tonight to wear while I was out there.  My friend want to go on the Celestial Seasonings tour in Boulder so we are going do to that too. Have a great weekend.
