Looking for locals
Geesh, I feel like I'm posting a personal ad. Should I start by saying I'm happily married? More importantly, I am six years post op today and I jumped on the website to check in. There are so many people on the main board that everyone gets sort of lost. It looks like this Colorado board is a little more manageable.
I travel a lot for my job and have a very erratic schedule so I haven't been to support group in years. And the support group I did go to was very large. I'm glad that our community is so supportive and connected, but I'm sort of looking for a few people in the area to just talk to.
I am very happy with my surgery, but I'd love to talk to others who are going through something similar. I had an RNY so I don't know as much about lap band surgery. I think I'd make a good resource for people who are curious about what happens this far out. I am very opinionated and un-apologetic though.
My entire journey is documented on my profile which you are welcome to read. If you are in the North Denver area (I'm in Arvada), or not, email me and we'll chat.
Yep, still feels like a personal ad.

I want to really thank those of you *****plied to me. I'll get back to you personally when I have a chance. I got really busy and it took me awhile to get back to the posting.
I will say right off that I am almost completely positive about my surgery and results. I did have complications in the first year, but that is ancient history now. I continue to live with the surgery, but in ways that are not that big a deal. I dump really bad sometimes. I've had problems right after meals where I really needed to lie down until it passed. However, it always does pass. And I know how to avoid it, just stay away from the high carb, high sugar, high fat foods. That is no different from most diets which we would all be on without the surgery. Well, ok, I wouldn't be on a diet, but most people would be.
Other than the dumping, there is almost no impact on my life from the surgery except the weight loss (which was the point) and some excess skin. The excess skin is a pretty minor concern and it's easy to hide. I don't know what "negatives" everybody is telling you about, but I'm not experiencing them. Of course, I take supplements everyday, but much of that is not even related to the surgery. So I don't think of that as either a negative or related to WLS.
I will say that my weight still fluctuates and is up a good 20 pounds from my all time post WLS low. But my bmi is still about 25 and even if it were higher, I'll never be at a bmi of 41 again. I have not achieved this intentionally. I eat what I can manage and exercise when I can. If anything, I'm less rigorous about both than pre-op when I was quite vigilant on the nutrition/exercise thing. I think it's important for everyone to remember to have realistic weight loss goals. If you are expecting to become and stay a size 6, you may be disappointed. And that would be a shame because statistically, people only lose 80% of their excess weight and most people would be happy with that if they didn't set their expectations for more.
So, that's my spiel for the day. I promise I will answer specific questions and I really do appreciate you guys wanting to be in touch with locals.

Hello Kathryn,
I'm in Greeley but usually make it to Littleton a few times a month to visit my parents. I don't have a support group that I can attend due to my busy work schedule and I find it hard to find people to relate to (with exception on this website) concerning my new lifestyle and the changes that I've made. If you ever need to chat, I'm here too :)
Taking one day at a time.
