Hi everyone, I have decided on RNY and am scheduled with Dr. Chae on May 14th! Just wondering... Dr. Chae only requires you to go on a liquid diet one day before surgery. Has anyone done it for longer? I just wonder if one day is enough to flush everything out well enough. Any insight would be great. Thanks, Anne

Once you take the bowel prep that day you will realize that definately everything gets flushed out LOL! I was sooo glad he only required a day I can't imagine what some people go through with 2 weeks of it!

Anne, I went to my one week pre-opt appointment and the next day I had to start a liquid diet. I was not very happy to say the least in the beginning but it was a good preparation for what was to come the first couple of weeks after surgery. Things are flushed out and it also made IVs a whole lot easier because I was well hydrated.

Totally up to your doc. My surgen requires no liquid diet and no bowel prep. Just no food or water after midnight the night before.

My doc did 2 days of liquid diet with bowel prep, even if you don't require bowel prep it is a good idea because it lowers the possibility of sepsis should the doc nick your bowel.
