Yes, Kaiser has recently started to offer lap band. I would call the weight managment program and get an application. 303-614-1070. You should also call member services and check to see what your bennifit is. You may have a 30%-50% coinsurance? You may not. Please send me a pm if you need any help at all I have some of their more updated info. Amy

I heard a rumor that Kaiser uses Penrose in Colorado Springs for there patients. Penrose is now doing LAPS.

Hi Amy, Thank you for your response! yea! My pcp said they did not offer it yet but I had a feeling they do, or would soon. I am at my wit's end. Anyway, I signed up for weight connections to start on April 17. My bmi is about 38. I guess I have a long road ahead of me, huh?:-(

It seemed like such a long road when I started too. I would get your aplication in asap. (You dont need a pcp referal ) They are speeding up the process all the time. They have 2 surgens now and have increased class size. Let me know if you have any more ??????? Amy

Hi Susan! I just had my surgery with Kaiser on 3/20, but I started with my request for the information and application back in Nov 2005. Back then i was just thinking about it too, but it's a good idea to get your application in as soon as possible so you can get started. You'll have lots of time along the way to make sure it's the right thing for you. The class before mine was the first to have the lapband done, so it is very new for Kaiser in Denver, but both surgeons do offer both RNY and Lap Band and you'll have time to decide which is best as well while going through class. Good luck! Sherry

thanks Sherry! wow, it takes that long for the whole process?! I can't wait that long!!! How are you doing now? I am starting the weight connections class on 4/17. If I could do this myself I would, but I can't. I need as many tools as I can get.

Hi. Good luck with the weight connections class. It will get you started on the road, and they do some of the same things we learna bout in Surgery Connections class to prepare for RNY or Lap Band. I never did it, but in the groups I attended with others who had weight connections class prior to my surgery, there are lots of options besides surgery. I think they will tell you all about those. I have my first post-op support group at East on 4/17 also. That is just for people who have already had surgery but are within 1-2 years post-op for support during weight loss. Hopefully I'll see some people form my class. Take care! Sherry

WOW! I am so happy there are people in Colorado and on Kaiser on this board. I was just writing in on a national board asking if anyone knew if Kaiser in Colorado was offering the Lap-Band Now. In the fall of 2005 they told me they wernt offering it yet; but I was eligible for the Bypass. At first I was going to do it, but then decided to give it one more try. Well, I'm now 20 pounds heavier and wish I had entered the process. Now I have to start all over again. Anyway, I am so happy its available now! Wher does the surgery take place? One of the posts here said it was Penrose in the springs, is that true? Is there an overnite stay? My BMI is 41, so I guess I'm a candidate. Is there anyway to speed up the process? My blood pressure just jumped to the highest its ever been and my sleep apnia has me averaging 3-4hrs/ night of sleep. I wonder if those stats would speed it up? Please let me know any info any of you experienced LapBanders Have. Thanx in advance!!!! Dan

I believe that if you are in the Denver or surrounding area you will have surgery with either Dr. Brown at PSL or Dr. Chea at St. Joes. Kaiser has all of their wsl patients mainstreamed into one set of 10 week classes. You are given a ton of info on both surgeries and will make your disicion about which surgery you want with the surgery connections staff and your surgern. There is noway to speed up the process. (We've all tried )The wait list is getting quicker and quicker all the time. Did you already submit your paper work and get your approvel? Please feel free to send me a PM.I had some of the more up-dated Kaiser info sent to me recently. As for you question about the over night well it prob is a case by case thing. I had bypass and was told to expect 2-4 nights. I stayed 1!!!! Hope all goes well drop me a line. Amy
