Help for my elderly Mother-in-law.

Does anyone know of a hospital that could help my Mother-in-law get her weight off? She is unable to stay at home now because she has fallen several times. She is of sound mind, but her weight is keeping her from living a healthy, happy life. I feel she is too old (80 yrs.old) for the bariatric surgery, but she needs some kind of help to get this weight off. If she could just get the weight off, she could live alone again independently, and not in a nursing home. She is temporarily living with my Sister in law. She is a lovely human being that is so full of life. Does anyone have any suggestions? Kamy

Kamy, if you have not already done so it might be worthwhile to discuss this with some of the surgeon's office staff, they might have some ideas or resources. Also discuss with your or your mom-in-law's insurance companies. I think that both Memorial and Penrose hospitals in Colorado Springs have various weightloss programs. Sorry I can't be more specific...

I agree with Wilcox on discussing the weight issue with her doctors. They would be the ones to know what she can or cannot handle. I know from personal experience that taking care of elderly or ill family members is a very demanding ordeal. Good luck with everything and best wishes to your mother-in-law. - Star

Thanks to both of you for your advice and support. I will talk to my sister-in-law and possibly her Doctor to see what other avenues we can take besides gastric bypass. Sincerely, Kamy
