I am also needing surgery. I was approved 6 years ago for surgery with Aetna but 2 days before surgery my husband freaked out and wouldn't let me go through with it. We are now seperated and his plan with Aetna excludes wls. I also have medicaid as secondary insurance and i'm not sure where to start or what I need to do. But i'm even heavier now then I was 6 years ago and really kick myself for not doing it then. I am now single mom with 4 kids and not feeling so good. Help! Lisa

Your Dr's office should be able to help you with the pre-approval process for medicaid. I know by reading the main board that medicaid can sometimes pay. You might get some more answers on the main board from people with experience with medicaid. Good luck Hun. Sarah

Ditto! I have AETNA and they refuse the WLS...I had CIGNA and was weeks away from being able to meet their requirements when our insurance at work changed .... Its a catch 22 in that insurances WONT take you if you are morbidly obese and have other problems...which are associated --- ie Asthma or back probs...etc....What do ya do? Who do ya turn to? I dont have 30K laying around to pay on my own....I feel your pain.....is there an alternative???? Best of luck to ya!

Dr. Timothy Brown out of Canon City does the wls with medicaid as long as you are v ery diligent about jumping through the hoops and getting all your paperwork in. Please check him out. Toll fre: 1-866-333-2263. I am going through the process with him right now and so far both he and his office staff have been very encouraging. Janet W
