HELLO!!!! CAN WE TALK????
Hi! I'm NEW! I am scheduled to have my pre-op appointment on 11-20-06, my surgery on 11-21-06, and my NEW thinner body to follow!!!!! I would LOVE to hear anything anyone would like to tell me regarding this surgery during, immediately following, and over the next year or two. I am excited...but aprehensive. PLEASE...PLEASE...talk to me???!!!
I'm 3 1/2 weeks out from surgery and at this point, I would tell you that I didn't have near as much pain as I expected to have following surgery. It takes time to adjust to the new lifestyle, but for me its not been as tough as some people seem to think. Granted I still have a long way to go, but I've moved into the soft food stage and its seldom that that I have any kind of an upset. For me the biggest upsets were the result of a newly acquired intolerance for milk.
I've lost an average of 1 lb. per day since my surgery and I'm starting to feel better with each passing day and wanting to get out and do more.
Wishing you well and if I can be of help, let me know.
Oh, I would advise you to buy a couple of "baby spoons" because they do help you to control the size of the bites you put in your mouth.
Aren't you nice. What kind of surgery did you have? I am having the Lap-Band. The baby spoon idea sounds like good advice. I never even thought about what size bites you would be able to take! I just assumed that it was more about how much my new stomach would hold not how it got there! Goodness! Fortunately I have MANY baby spoons because my youngest is JUST getting out of the baby spoon stage!
RNY is where they rearrange your insides and leave with a stomach (now referred to as a pouch) about the size of an egg.
My insurance isn't yet convinced Lap Band is as effective but I started this journey before it was commonly available anyway.
So in the end I went for RNY and gave myself a reason to get paranoid when Animal Planet refers to animals with pouches.
Hi Rebecca...welcome! I had my surgery 9-29-06 and was so scared the weeks prior to surgery. It's not that bad all. Take your cell phone to the hospital with you because it can be hard to reach for the hospital phone. Walk as soon as you can. If you having lap RNY your recovery period will be much less than the open procedure. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you throught this. Email me anytime.
Thank you for your response! What exactly is "RNY?" I am having the Lap-Band. I won't really have a hospital stay - it's out-patient. I will go in at 9:00a and as soon as the general wears off, I think I get to leave. I will stay in a hotel that night and call them in the morning to make sure that everything is okay. If so...I can head home!
Hi Didi! Where on the western slope do you live? What kind of WLS did you have a year ago? How much have you lost? Have you had any problems? Is there anything that you found to be a major hurdle? It's certainly sounds like you're feeling much better - the fact that you are IN a swimming suit sounds good to me! :-)
Hi Rebecca,
I live in Glade Park outside Grand Junction. Years ago we lived in Glenwood and Silt so I know New Castle. Anyway I've lost 104 lbs. I've had no problems what so ever. It did take me a couple of months to have any energy after my RnY surgery on November 8th last year. But then again, I had no energy before the surgery. I'm 52 and just thought I was getting old but now a year later and at a healthy weight, I feel like I did at 17. It is amazing. Who is your surgeon? Which hospital. I went to Dr. Chae at Sky Ridge and he and the hospital were both wonderful.
