DENIED! What do I do NOW!!!

Tricare has said no to surgery. I am not fat enough and not sick enough for them what am I going to do. Any suggestions would be great!!! I am tired and aloss on what to do now

Anna, I also was not fat enough or sick enough. My husband took money from his 401K and I went to Mexico and had surgery. I am so glad we made the decision to do it. -Michelle

Anna, I would guess that they must have an appeals process. You might want to check with your regular physician to ask him or her for assistance. I am going through providing additional info to Kaiser and so have had a sleep study. I have very severe apnea, but would not not have known how bad without the sleep study. Additionally, I just had back xrays done and found I have osteoarthritis in my spine. Next week I'm going back to the podiatrist who did my bunion and hammertoe surgeries in order to ask him to do new films and write a letter in support of my having the surgery. Have you had all the tests you "should" have to demonstrate the severity of your condition? Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Liz

I just went today to Ft Carson for the consult with the surgeon. My BMI is much higher 46. I am not truly sure what your next step would be. I would suggest a liasion(sp?) that may be able to guide you in the correct direction. Some of the questions that I was asked were how long have you been heavy, do you have other issues(weak bladder, high cholesterol, sleep apnea,how many diets have you been on....) start going to your pcm for everything to make sure it gets documented. Also call Tricare directly and ask if there is an appeals process. Not sure, seems like it is the doctors decision. Good Luck.
