Obtaining Private Health Insurance Post WLS
Okay, I've been round and round about this -- but here's what I found:
1) Pre-op I was too heavy to be covered under Anthem BC/BS -- so I was denied! (Although I got coverage for DH & kids)
2) Self-paid for my WLS in April and now I'm only merely 'overweight' (pounds still dropping).
3) Reapplied to BC/BS and was DENIED! Because I have had WLS! WHAT?
I was told that I can reapply after FIVE YEARS!!!! Yikes. That really truely stinks.
I have found that Cover Colorado will cover me -- they can't deny anyone. Nice safety net for those who need insurance and can afford to pay. However they want $500/mo for just me. It's a decent policy -- but way too expensive.
Just wanted to share my experience and find out if anyone has other ideas for my current delima.
Thanks for letting me spew!

I checked with Kaiser several years ago and they won't cover me because I live in Grand County and they don't have any facilities here. So I guess because they'd end up having to pay outside of their own network, they won't do it.
My sister had Kaiser for years and really liked it -- even with all it's faults.
Thanks for the idea anyway -- I may check again, just to see if anything has changed.
