Can anyone give me any hints on how 2 make the most of the surgery pre-op ? I am approved and the MD told me not 2 lose any weight. I would like 2 try and build muscle though in order 2 speed the process up post op. I am about 4-6wks out. Any ideas ?

Thats a good question that I have also! I am scheduled for surgery August 23, having the last consult before surgery on Aug. 18, and I think I am stressing out! I will be starting the liquid diet in two weeks, and am reading posts trying to get ideas for what to get for that time, and then planning for after, but I think my tastes will change and what sounds good now, wont then! I have been doing walking, aerobic excercise more frequently over the past two months (maybe I was trying to see if the weight would start to come off! - it didnt), and just mentally trying to go to a happy place...... hope this helps! Thanks so much for the advice Melissa. I have already started implementing some of your ideas. I have collected about a dozen protien shake samples, and have also picked up a book or two at the library. I am also looking for a good juicer 2. Take it easy girl. Stay in that happy place, these moments coming up will change your life 4-ever. Congradulations. You are already a glowing sucess ! I will be praying for you, and expect only the best 4 U. Thanks for your help. And keep me posted. K Lyric

Hi! My surgery is scheduled for August 15 and I was told by the nutritionist as well as my doctor to do the things I can do, such as walking, swimming, etc, in order to maintain the activity level and speed recovery after the surgery. I supposed if you want to build muscle I would recommend the typical weights training, etc, but I was told that it is really important to get used to your protein diet, as well as the heart rate. Everything else will happen afterward. Good luck! Christin

Hey Christin, I just wanted to thank you for your very helpful advise. I am looking int0 getting a personal trainer to help me increase my muscle mass. I am also trying 2 get used to a diet of salad (eww) and meat (yeah). I am concerned about the post of phase and how that will effect my taste buds. I am truly terrified about the thought of dumping even once, has me a bit on edge. I have my psych consult Monday and am hoping they don't give me a three day eval at the local "rest home" I am excited about your procedure, and know that I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Woo Hoo to the new U sugar. No one else deserves it more ! Here's 2 a healthier, happier, and sexier U ! Blessings Lyric
