My surgery is coming up on August 14th or 15th (I'm waiting to hear back with final day/time today). I originally was doing Lap-Band, but since my insurance won't cover it, have decided to do Gastric instead. I am wanting an idea on recovery time. I have an 18 month old at home, and my husband is leaving with the military at the end of the month, so I need to know how much help I'm going to need and for how long. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

So the date is set - for Aug. 14th. Looking forward to it, but still unsure as to how long I'm going to need help with my son. Wondering if he and I will have to move to my Mom's house in Denver for the first week or so my husband will be gone (he will be gone for 7 weeks with the military). Please help me figure out a time line.

Eryn, everyone recovers differently. So it would be hard to predict exactly how long it would take for your recovery. But they say to plan for 6 weeks.. You shouldn't lift anything that weighs more than 10lbs for the first 6 weeks.. You can probably work around that...but just keep it in mind. I felt pretty good after about 3 weeks. Good luck on your surgery..and I wish you a speedy recovery!! Anna

Thanks Anna. I know recovery really depends on the person, but I was hoping to find others who have had WLS and had to deal with small children. I appreciate your feedback. 3 weeks seems to be the norm unless there are complications, which makes me feel better! Eryn
