please read the comments i added to the bottom of my profile about "my surgeon" and trip to have a consultation. if you have any advice please let me know because i am so stuck right now. it is long but very important to me that people preparing for this can see how much trouble they might be getting themselves into . maybe some of you that have been through it can offer suggestions. i would really really appreciate it. thanks so much
I see that you are going to have your sugery done by doctor Jonell. I live here in Greeley. However, I didn't have my surgery done by him. I've heard good thing about him though. I can understand your frustrations about the time and money issues. My surgery was denied and thank god for my parents...they paid for my surgery. Have you thought about going through Capital one? I checked it out and they give loans for surgery. On my initial consultation, I was going towards the lap band as well. It just sounded like too much of a hassle to have to constantly go back and forth to the doctor to get the port filled. I thought long and hard about my decision and outweighed the consequences and benefits of the lap and the gastric bypass. I chose the gastric bypass and I couldn't be happier. I have been successful with it and it was the right decision for me. As far as the psych eval goes, I found with mine, they wanted to see if I was going to have any anorexic tendencies towards food after the surgery. I wanted this surgery to become healthy. I wanted a second chance at life and I got it. This has by no means been an easy road or an easy way out as some people try to tell you. I fight everyday with head hunger and it's a constant fight. If I had to do things over, I would have entered counseling for awhile to find out what caused me to overeat and to chose bad food choices...I have found out now and I've been in counseling for 3 months. I have found out that alot of issues have re-surfaced and I have to deal with them head on instead of eating them away. It's hard but I have no regrets! I would do this all over again in a heartbeat! I'm not sure as to what kind of co-morbidities that you have but the gastric bypass took all of mine away within a very short period of time. I'm not so sure that the lapband would have done that for me. I don't know if any of this has helped you or not? I do wish you success in finding your way to a happier and healthier life with your family If you're in Greeley anytime soon, just email me..I'd be happy to sit down and talk with you!
Take care!
