Topic: Almost 5 Years Post Op and I Need Help

I had my RNY in December 2007. My highest weight was 328, and on the day of surgery it was 319. I lost the weight fast and adjusted to the new diet and lifestyle easily (aside from the exercise, I didn't work out once). By January 2010 my weight reached its lowest at 162 --- a grand total loss of 166 pounds. But being a new mom, having my husband and I both out of work and living with my parents brought about a whole new world of stress and depression for me. I was able to maintain my weight for most of 2010 at around 180, but that didn't last the following year after my husband decided to join the Navy.

The experiences of his boot camp, A-School, and first deployment proved to be just too much for me emotionally. I found myself alone in a 1 bedroom apartment with no car, no TV, no friends, no family and nothing to do for months. The stress, anxiety, and depression proved to be more than I could handle and I ended up being hospitalized twice in less than a year's time at a psychiatric hospital. My only comfort was food - and I ate.

As of this past Sunday I weighed 259 -- up almost 100 pounds from my lowest -- and I am miserable. Things have settled down for me emotionally, but the scars have remained from the past 2 years. I have completely isolated myself... aside from the socialization I receive from my husband and my daughter, I don't get out of the house -- at all -- and I have no friends within 2000 miles. Physically, aside from housework, I do nothing. I sit on the couch all day watching TV, always too tired and exhausted to do anything... including playing with my daughter. I'm back to hurting, having aches and pains, should I do too much of anything, having difficulty breathing when climbing the steps to our apartment, my heart pounding by the time I walk out to the mailbox and back.

Diet wise, I can eat anything now that I did pre-surgery... except in smaller quantities. My biggest problem is that it feels like the food passes through my stomach quickly, and within 30 minutes after a meal I feel like I am starving again. I'm never full, never satisfied... so I am always grazing, looking to make that hunger go away.

I'm at a loss as what to do. What should I be eating? How often? And how much? When it comes to exercise what should I do? What should be my goals?.....and all in all... how can I be happy again?

I'm stuck --- and confused.

Someone please help.

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you don't deserve my best.

It is real informal and all you have to do is show up.  It's our first get together.  We'll decide when/where the next meeting will be.
Hope to see you next time.  Linda

 Hi Gina!

I have a lot of nice size 12 work clothes.  Some are 12 petite - but some are just 12.   You are welcome to come and look at what I have this weekend - I'll text you :)

As for group, I go to the UCI support group, it meets once a month.  I have only been once, but it does meet this coming Tuesday.  I can't give a real assessment of the group after only one meeting.  I think I rubbed some of the people the wrong way :(.  Something.

Anyhow - there are a bunch of us getting together from OH.  We are having a Halloween party!  Here's the info on the group we made, feel free to join!

I will text you later today about the clothes.

Topic: Announcing Forum Upgrades!

Its been over six years since we've launched our forums. During this time it has seen thousands of fresh faces, greetings, meetings, partings, arguments, kind words, life transformations, cathartic rants, and simply happy time pass. It has been with us throughout this time, silently observing and facilitating. But like any wise old man, its bones were getting old. Its joints were aching, and it has been needing a new jolt of energy.

A Mobile World
Did you know that over 30% of you visit our website using a mobile device? For those who do visit us via mobile, we owe you a sincere apology, because our forums have been horrendous on a mobile browser. But the big news is that things are about to change! Our new forums are completely mobile friendly and compatible with iPhone, Android, and pretty much any other modern smart phone.

Each post, topic, and forum shows up beautifully, with the full set of features, and in nice large font. See the screenshots for yourself.

You dont have do anything different, just browse to the forums like you normally would. This means that you can finally put these away:

Not Just for Mobile
The interface on your desktop browser has also been cleaned up a great deal. There is now less clutter on the page, and the overall experience is a lot cleaner. Check out some more screenshots here!

You will notice that each post no longer has 400 buttons below it. Only the buttons that are relevant to each post show up, making your screen space a lot less cluttered. Also, when you reply to another person's post, the entire post is indented inside, making it a lot easier to figure out who has replied to whom.

Launching soon! Maybe as early as next week! Maybe.
And do remember that this is not in any way a be-all-end-all when it comes to the forums. We are in the process of constantly learning and improving upon what we have, and this is just one step along the way.

Stay tuned for the changes! We look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

Topic: RE: scheduled for bariatric surgery orientation @ Kaiser Fontana, what can I expect?

I'd expect you to listen closely and take some notes.  Hopefully there will be handouts, but I'd highly recommend you take notes. You need to be made aware of any items YOU are required to initiate or complete before you have surgery.  It's a good policy to learn about the post op process and begin limiting you food choices, food portions, drinking lots of water, doing some exercise, etc.  It's very difficult for people to suddenly stop all poor food choices or eating habits all of a sudden right after surgery.  If you start learning to do "baby steps" prior to surgery, your post op experience is much easier to handle.  Give up sodas one week, give up desserts another, stop eating after dinner, drink 64 oz of water daily, etc.  If you have mobility issues, find a gym or YWCA or YMCA to use for warm water aerobics--you weigh very little in pool.  You may have to schedule these water aerobic "classes" many weeks in advance, as they are popular.  Go to support meetings to learn about what really happens to people the first few weeks post op. You'll likely learn a lot of things you won't hear in any classes with Kaiser.  View many forums like OH to learn how others deal with post op issues.  Good luck. Listen closely, and get ready to enjoy your new life. DAVE
