Hi there - welcome to Sacramento/Roseville. I am actually in the Natomas area (near the airport and Arco/Sleeptrain arena). I am in the pre-pre stages of weight loss surgery and have consulted with my surgeon twice now. He has many accolades and is very well known. His name is Steven Patchings, MD, and he is with Sutter. Good luck and let me know if I can help any further. Joy
Hi there. I am new here. I had the LapBand surgery back in 2005 and am now pursuing a revision. I have lost a total of 65 pounds but am still at 230 lbs with sleep apnea. My surgeon said he will go for RNY but may have to do the sleeve if scar tissue it too intense. My question is, how likely is insurance to approve this? I have Aetna HMO. I did classes with a nutritionist and went through a behavioral modification program with a psychologist for six weeks.
Are there others out there who were told the RNY may not be an option due to band scarring? Any experiences with Aetna HMO in SoCal?
Have you considered moving a little further away than 20 minutes? Tracy is a lot less expensive than anywhere near Dublin, San Ramon, Concord, etc. Tracy is between 30 - 45 minutes away from Dublin/Pleasanton/San Ramon. Depending on what time of day you are needing to commute, your driving time could be even less. I've made it from Manteca (where I live and is further away from Dublin than Tracy) to San Leandro (which is about 15 minutes closer to the East Bay area) in 45 minutes instead of an hour during non normal commute hours.

my surgery is the same date...am looking forward to this journey..not from your area so can't advise on support groups in your area but this site seems pretty awesome at supporting everyone.
just re-read your post. from what i know you drive down to see him 2 times before surgery then you have to be down there the day before surgery to register with hospital i am not sure if you see him that day.i know you are for sure in the hospital for the first night (after surgery) and more then likely a second night. So if someone is driving you down then will need a hotel for at least 3 nights.
i would not bring kids to his office only because his office is shared with his brothers who are also docs its nice but very busy.i was surprised by how busy it was he is the only one of the brothers that does WLS i thanked him over and over again knowing he is really not doing this for the money because we all know that he does not get paid close to what he should be for saving all of our lives.
hi, i am in Paradise the doc is AMAZING never makes you feel like your fat he asked me why i was there to see him.lol i poked myself in my tummy and said because i have been fat all my life..he took it all in stride..
sadly he will leave you sitting in the office for about an hour waiting and you are in with him for about 15 minutes
i told him i wish we could Skype for the first appointment his answer was insurance doesnt pay for skype.true answer lol he asks what surgeries you have had and also what all you have wrong with you.i was not ready for the second one and didnt give him everything my next appointment is next month and i will have all my other doctors appointments and tests done. you have lots of doctors and tests to be done but when its all said and done i am sure i will be kissing his feet when its all done! so very grateful to have this second chance in life!
the drive is yucky, it took my lower back a week to recover. i make my appointments for later in the afternoon and it puts me in after work traffic to get home lots of stop and go and freakin out about getting rear ended..we have no traffic jams here so its always interesting.
good luck! if you have any questions feel free to ask me if i don't have an answer i know someone who might have them.
