Topic: Announcing new listserv for East Bay Bariatric Support Group...stay in touch...

Hello CA OH members,

East Bay Bariatric had to switch our listserv company from Topic (that somehow just stopped working) to MailChimp.  Should you be interested in receiving our monthly meeting reminder notices, here is the link to a form to add your e-mail address to the new listserv: http://eepurl.com/tjnrP

This is a great option if you don't regularly check your OH inbox or the CA Board to see our notices but want to stay informed.  We are the independent, peer support group that meets at the San Leandro Hospital.

Thank you,

Kimberlee MacVicar

Did you ever have an upper GI or anything right after you did your sleeve? Im wondering how you would know if your stomach stretched or if it was made large to begin with?

Have you considered the DS? I would think it would be better to keep your stomach as it is with the pyloric valve and add the malabsorption than to go with the RNY? With the RNY you are only going to get a temporary benefit of malabsorption and then you wlll end up back with a restrictive only procedure.

Id be afraid to have my sleeve looked at - im sure ive stretched it :-p

Im not sure if you had the lap band or not, but having your pouch grow doesnt seem like the worst possible scenario - sucks, but a lot of people come close to losing their life with that thing.

Have you researched all your options for WLS and revisions? With the RNY, you are going to end up with another pouch and stoma that are capable of stretching. I am definitely biased since Ive had the VSG, but have you considered the sleeve?

I'm glad to hear you were able to get some answers though, and I wish you the best with your revision!

Topic: RE: *QUEST* Dr. tells me that I can have either the RNY or Sleeve - Did I make the right choice?

Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery and a successful surgery. I hope it works out for you.

The support group that I attend is sponsored by Pacific Laparoscopy, the practice of Dr. John Rabkin. It is very much oriented towards the DS, though we've had people with other operations come occasionally as well. I had the DS almost 7 years ago and I'm very happy with it.

I suspect the meetings at Good Sam will be more oriented towards people with RNY, and probably more useful for you, though there will be people there with sleeve or lap band as well.

Larra,

First off, my apologies for not responding sooner.

So much has happpened.  I've actuallly had surgery (12/11/12).   I decided on the RNY afterall because of my GERD issues and also my addiction to sugar.   I feel pretty good most of the day but I've been having this stomach cramping/constant pain that it gets hard at times. I was trying to get myself off the Lortab (liquid Vicodin) but I've decided to continue to take it a couple of more days to control the pain.

Yes, I am in the Bay Area (San Jose).  I've gone to the support meetings at Good Samaritan and found them to be helpful.

Can I ask about you?  Have you had surgery?  How long ago?  I'm definitely interested in re-joining the support group meetings and hope to get a new schedule for Good Sam soon.  Where do you attend?

Sandra
