I know one support group near conejo valley named as Ventura County Star Support Group. You can call them in this no. 818-667-5564
I also live in San Diego County. You can use the "Find" function on this website and search for psychiatrist and/or psychologist in San Diego. I have not personally been to any of them. Also Sharp Memorial Hospital offers a free support group (not one on one). The group the 1st Monday of every month at Sharp Memorial Hospital - 7901 Frost St, San Diego.
Hope this information is helpful.

I remember John very fondly as I was active on this board at that time. I went on to have WLS and still had to have a 7 way cardiac bypass 5 years after my weight loss. We do so much damage to our bodies with obesity. I am now os much healthier than I have been in 30 years. good luck to you on your journey.
Hi everyone,
Fresh out of RNY surgery October 31, 2016 and looking for recommendations for therapist's in the San Diego area to help me out as I am already encountering some trying, "negative voice in my head" moments. Hoping to find someone who has experience working with WLS patients on self confidence, negative self talk, binge eating type issues and am finding it difficult to just pick someone out of the crowd of therapists online. Hope someone out there can help!
Thanks!
Elizabeth
I read your post from a few years back about gaining weight even on 800 cal/day since your thyroid gland was removed. I also read that you are interested in VSG.
Of course it may be good to get your entire metabolism checked out if you haven't already, but bottom line, if you are unable to lose, and even gaining, on so few calories, any operation without metabolic changes and malabsorption isn't going to help you. The sleeve works via restriction. The only metabolic change it provides is lower levels of ghrelin, which may help you to be less hungry but doesn't directly contribute to weight loss.
So, I would recommend that you research and strongly consider the duodenal switch (DS). The DS works via a combination of moderate restriction (the sleeve is part of the DS) along with significant malabsorption and metabolic changes that aid with permanent weight loss. It has the best statistics of any bariatric surgery for percentage excess weight loss, for maintaining that weight loss, and for resolution of almost all comorbidities. And since you asked about a surgeon in SoCal, I would recommend Dr. Ara Keshishian in Glendale, who is a very experienced DS surgeon with an excellent reputation.

HELLO-
HEADING TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA... LOOKING FOR A HOSPITAL/SURGEON.
I HAVE READ SEVERAL REVIEWS ETC. BUT THE MORE I READ THE MORE CONFUSED I BECOME.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP
Had my bands from 2006 and initially lost 100 pounds I gained 30 of that back. I just switched bariatric surgeons and half thinking of having a revision to the sleeve but I'm kind of leery as am 71 years old but the doctor doesn't seem to think that would be an issue as anyone out there had this revision done
