Topic: RE: Kaiser permanente
I had surgery at Kaiser SSF in March. The criteria for referral are BMI greater than 40 OR BMI greater than 35 with ONE serious comorbidity, like diabetes, moderate or severe sleep apnea, hypertension on multiple meds, PCOS. Probably some others. There is a required overview class to complete before the referral, but the process can be very fast. After the overview, I was referred and accepted and in orientation in a little over a week. Completed all the required things ( wt loss, psych, nut) and saw the surgeon within another 4 weeks. He offered me a surgery date that was 3 weeks away, but I was not ready to take the leap. I ended up waiting a couple more months to get it done, which was the right thing for me. Don't let people scare you away from Kaiser. You can get top notch care there. I would be happy to answer any more questions you might have.

Topic: Dr. Leport (Fountain Valley Ca.)

  Hello,

Has anyone had the lap-band done with Dr. Leport (fountain valley ca) or any of the other surgeons in his group?

I'm scheduling surgery soon and I still haven't  narrowed down a surgeon. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Not exactly an answer to your question, but have you considered the VSG? Read up on the pyloric valve and why keeping it is good. Also, loss is slower but by 18-24 months it is very close to the same as RNY. I thought I wanted RNY but changed to VSG, at least consider it.

Topic: RE: Anthem BCBS help
I have anthem BSBC and had VSG on Thursday. My story is a long one but the bottom line was that my PCP did not know what she was doing. My OB highly recommended cbgsa.net so I called them and asked what PCP they like to work with. If you are near LA I highly recommend Dr Jayakumar Shah in Arcadia. No messing around, got things done and has turned out to be the most attentive PCP I've ever had.

Don't give up, that what they want. If you have comorbidities, sleep apnea, diabetes etc make sure you are using that to your advantage. I had a sleep study and found I have mild sleep apnea, but that was enough to get my approval done nog and I forgot to mention ... My insurance handbook claimed they didn't cover it too. Yet here I am, sleeved for only $250 hospital stay copayment. Good luck, feel free to pm me if you need more info.

Topic: I'm in week 6 of options program, Fontana , Ca. Kaiser

I'm a 60 years old, 5' 11",  300 lb male going thru the Kaiser options program in Fontana, Ca.

I'd love to hear from anyone else who currently going thru this program or who has already completed the program and surgery. Although i have changed my diet quite a bit, I'm still worried that i wont be able to maintain the diet that's necessary for WLS.

As far as exercising goes, I'm experiencing some pain in my hips, which limits how much i can do at one time. I'm sure many other people have similar self doubts about their ability to do this. I'd love to hear from you.

By now you know what an outstanding surgeon you have in Dr. Woodbury. Since I just found your post, Tuesday, August 6 it seems mute to answer your call for information on your chosen surgeon. He's great, isn't he?!! I hope you are doing well in your post op recovery. What type of surgery did you have?
