Hi. You might want to join the Orange County WLS Support Group and when you feel up to it, join us in person at one of the meetings. The Coordinators and nice and it is a great group of people.

Best, Amy

I have Tricare Prime, and I love it. They approved me first time. Not sure where you are at, but there are surgeon's out here that take it.  For Tricare to pay, you have to be 100 lbs over weight with co-morbidities, or 200% over your ideal body weight. They use the MetLife table, medium frame http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/met.htm to figure out the 200%. I have not had my surgery yet, its scheduled for September. So, so far have only had to pay a couple of co-pays and my surgeon's program fee of $750.

Hope this info helps you, and if you have more question, feel free to pm me.

My understanding is that individual insurance polices don't cover WLS.

I'm trying to get back into heavy training after my recovery week. But it's going to be tough because I'm doing the swim portion of a race on Sat. so I'll be traveling on Friday.

3 of us from OH were going to do an Ironman in the Santa Rosa area as a relay team. I was to do the swim, Seht is doing the bike and a friend whose screen name I forgot was to do the run. We called our team Winning by Losing as we've lost over 400 pounds between us!

But then J got an achilles injury and can't do the run. So now a friend from my tri club is doing the run. She's never had a weight problem in her life. But she's cool and it's better than scratching from the event.

Hi there.  While I didn't have my surgery at Good Samaritan or have Blue Cross PPO, I do benefits for a living.

First of all, to change plans, if you are covered by an employer plan, it has to be open enrollment or you have to have a life changing event.  Most HMO's require less out of pocket than the 13k you are looking at with the PPO.  PPO's offer flexibility but generally cost more out of pocket unless you are married and you are covered under a spouse's plan that allows a sharing of benefits.

I am happy to help but need to know a little more about what plans your employer offers.

Thanks,
Barb

Nicole,

Congrats on your consult tomorrow, how wonderful is that!!!

As far as people changing you..... really?  Don't they know they need to worry about themselves?
I think I have to feel somewhat sorry for the person who said that you needed to go to church to become more submissive!  That's kinda sad that this is what this person gets out of church!  Oh well, I guess that's why we're all different eh?

Maybe on your birthday you might focus on the new life that awaits for you and the rebirth you will experience.  Birthday's celebrate you as a person!!!  Be proud, stand tall and yell "heck ya I'm good!!!"  Cuz you are.

I wish you all the best for tomorrow and can't wait to hear all about it.

Hugs,
Barb

The weekend was nice. Spent some time with some friends. Got a little exercise in.

I started at a new office today, and it's much busier than my previous assignment. I'm definitely going to have a very stressful couple of weeks to get use to the amount of work I have to do. I'm used to having a lot of down time at work, but that seems like a thing of the past. I also lost all of my friends that I worked with, and now there are only 3 other people in my office, and I don't like them...

I am thinking about going to the gym on my lunches ( i get 1.5 hr lunches) but I'll have to wait and see how things go.

Hello there,

New to the forums but I have a ton of questions.  I really want to get the surgery but - from my calculations under my insruance; at the center of excellence; with the surgeon who takes my insurance - I'm looking at $13,000.

Questions:
Does anyone have Anthem Blue Cross PPO Share 5,000?
Has anyone gotten their surgery done at Good Samaritan Hospital?
What did you have done? How much was the bill (before/after insurance)
Is there a Blue Cross plan out there that I can change to that would make it less out of pocket for me?
Should of asked this first - but where's the "Insurance for Dummies" board? ;)

Many thanks in advance for your advice.
