I know, I look great in clothes! but when they come off it's not cute. Honestly, I would rather live thin and have excess skin than be back at 315lbs any day!

The Anthem Precertification folks can tell you what your out of pocket will be. Don't be afraid to call them.

You should contact Diana Cox. She can get you to a surgeon in CA who is doing really great self pay rates right now. Supposedly better rates than going out of the country & you'd still be here in CA.
Won against big bad (SoCal) Kaiser for a Duodenal Switch Haven't heard of DS? Kaiser wants it that way. Come on over & read the truth.
Hit goal (Normal BMI) on 2-10-11! I LOVE my DS!!
My approval process timeline:
02/12/09 - Dr. refused to refer me for WLS
03/03/09 - Vented/whined about it on another board, planned to just wait until next year & switch plans
Let's see what happens! **updates in blog**

I could do the program fee - it's just the hospital fees that are scary. When I talked to Good Samaritan they said that the deductible woudl be due up front - and if it's my max out of pocket deductible they're talking about - that would be an additional $5,000 (or $7,500). That would be a little more difficult.

Ah yes, I'm assuming that the $5,700 program fee is either my surgeron (Cirangle) or his partner (Josset).
I had to pay that out of pocket, no question.
Yes, other surgeons are cheaper, but obviously cost wasn't the only consideration in picking my surgeon. My philosophy was that I was going to have to live with the outcome of this surgery for the rest of my life, many decades (hopefully), so I need to hire the best surgeon I can. I was fortunate that one of the best VSG surgeons in the country was only a two-hour drive away. So I hired him and decided to pay the higher fee because he's a better surgeon, and his patients tend to lose higher than average amounts of weight with their support program as well.
