Yogurt is made from milk and milk has sugar in it. So you can't get sugar free yogurt. You can get yogurt with no sugar added -- aka plain yogurt.

I like FAGE greek yogurt. It has more protein than regular yogurt.

I tried to be prepared, and found out my tummy post op had different ideas on what it wanted to eat.  Yogurt that has any fruit will always find sugar in them due to the fruit,   They recommended plain greek yogurt with a mixture of SF flavorings, or the light yogurts.  The cream soups I wouldnt worry so much about the sugar just be sure you will be getting protein in there somehow.  Focus on getting the protein in and then work with everything else as it comes along.

I have spent the last two days reading labels and am getting frustrated. I can't seem to find any yogurt that is sugar free, and even some of the cream soups have sugar in them. Any hints on what kind and where to find good sugar free stuff that I can use for the 1st three stages of the post surgery plan. I don't have a date scheduled yet but I want to be prepared. I want to make some meals plans . thanks for all the help

Hi Nicole,

Take care,

Topic: RE: MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SURGEONS LIST!

Dr.David Thoman who works out of Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital accepts medicare-medical , i.e. medicare medicaid.

David Thoman

Advanced Surgical Associates

and

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital both accept medicare- medicaid.

When I was newly disabled by my weight ( pedal edema, shortness of breath, diabetes, hypertension etc) and being diagnosed with right sided heart failure from severe sleep apnea I began Calif. State Disability. This and my lack of income or savings qualified me for Med i-cal ( newly called Medicaid by calif). That was in 2009.

I then applied for Social Security income / or SSI/SSD. When I was approved for my SSD - Social Security Disability they told me that 2 years from the day I applied, they would advance me to Medicare health insurance so ...7/1/2011 I began Medicare - since my income was still under $1650/month I qualified for Medicaid too. So Medicare covers about 80% then Medicaid picks up the 20% - deductibles etc. Doctors call this coverage medi- medi.

All that was to explain

For two years I searched California unable to find one doctor or hospital willing to take bariatric patients for Med i-cal ( Medicaid ) insurance alone. They do accept it but only With Medicare as your primary coverage.

I have now completed the Pre- Weight loss surgery "Must Do" List of psych evaluation, chest x ray, EKG, treadmill, lab work , nutritionist and more. All but the psych evaluation were covered by Medi Medi . Next I meet with Dr Thoman to review it all and ideally set date for surgery.

I hope that was not too redundant for this thread and helped to illustrate the confusing hamster wheel of state assisted coverage in calif. It's a miserable system.
