Thanks for your reply! I gave them a call to check my coverage and you're right they cover EVERYTHING! So relieved! WHEW! ;)

My husband had his surgery through Kaiser and they covered EVERYTHING!
I took my own PILLOW. The ones in the hospital are FLAT and useless (plus who knows where they have been). Then when you go home put the pillow over your tummy and the seat belt will not bother you. Other than that take your own robe, slippers, deodorant, tooth brush and a change of loose clothing and under things for the trip home (nothing that is fitted tight around the waist). Don't forget the charger for your cell phone (if you have one).
I have blue cross PPO and went to Dr Thoman in Santa Barbara. I had my surgery within three months of my first contact with the Dr. I only had to lose 10% of the weight I needed to lose (about 11 lbs) before surgery, that took me about 30 days. and two weeks later I had my surgery. His office was very good at working with my insurance and Cottage Hospital was a WONDERFUL place for the surgery. Everything there was TOP NOTCH!
You should have been given info about your benefits - what is covered, what isn't, co-pays, etc.
If not, or if you can't find it, you can call Health Plan and they should be able to answer this question for you.

Hello everyone! Newbie here! I have a quick question for anyone that has went through South Sacramento bariatric program that has Medi-Cal.. I got full coverage Medi-Cal in November of last year and got Kaiser in November as well. I have orientation on the 21st of this month and was wondering if my coverage will cover the full surgery or if I have to pay anything out-of-pocket. I never pay co-pays for appointments or pharmacy I was just wondering if that goes for surgery as well .If anyone is in my shoes or has gone through the same thing I'm going through can you please give some feedback? Thank you!

I have Blue Cross (ppo), I was approved the first month. I only had one medical condition that would benefit from the surgery. I think this is why my process was faster. I had my consultation, nutrition class, psychologist interview all in a month time period. At my preop I had only lost 5 pounds, I was not supervised at all. the medical group helped me with all the process.
Would anyone know of anyone who was approved through Anthem Blue Cross without having to wait 6 months on a medically supervised diet? I sure would appreciate your help!
