Topic: RE: Thoroughly OT warning to parents of college age kids in CA...
Hi all! I am one of the two friends that sue mentioned (the one with the high deductable). There is an $80.00 per quarter program that you can subscribe to which allows your student access to the on campus facilities, but your insurance will be billed. This is for minor boo boos, etc.
We were enraged that our Anthem Blue Cross 80/20 PPO plan was not "adequate". Our son was severely injured last year and ended up in a hospital for a surgery and a few days of R&R. We KNOW how much money it can rack up to, but if we are able to pay our bills, why the hell is the State trying to shove something down our throats. We did have to jump through hoops to get the waiver, including faxing them our daughters COMPLETE EOB (something like 12 pages) .
And yes to answer your question Sue it was in excess of $500 per quarter x 3 quarters..

Topic: RE: bay area?? Need some support
Hi D -
I also live in Oakley, there are a few support groups here. One is the 4th Tuesday of every month at Sutter Delta Medical Center – Education Room, 6:30pm – 8:00pm, 3901 Lone Tree Way, Antioch, CA 94509
There is also (posted on the cali board) the Nor Cal Losers lunch that is usually at Coco's in Concord - usually around the 2nd Sat of every month. In October they are going to Apple Hill.
and last but not least there is an OH support Squad group that meets in the Brentwood area, go in to my groups and join. Right now they are looking for a new place for meetings but the meetings should start up again in October.
All three groups are very helpful and a wonderful group of people.
Hope this helps. :)

I am so excited things are going well for you!! Hope your week has been kick ass!!!
Topic: RE: Good, bad and will to not choke the crap out of stupid people
I sympathize with your frustration. I've been out of surgery about 2 weeks now, and one of my biggest fears/anticipated frustrations is having people look at me and say ridiculous things like:
"Hey--look at you! What happened to you" As if I have grown a 3rd eye....
"How much weight have you lost?" Over and over--As if they are tracking a ball game score....
"What's your secret for weight loss? Please tell me!"
"Hey--why did you have to have surgery for that? You could have just dieted and gotten the same results!"
I also subscribe to the idea that I am doing this for me--I like the direction that I am going in with this plan, and I hope to be, at some level, an inspiration to others around me who are in a similar situation with their health and weight. I just don't like the idea of dealing with the nimrods and clods out there.

I know this posting is way late, but I am in the north county and would be totally down to meet up!
Topic: RE: 5 1/2 Years Later after Surgery (RNY)
I really appreciate the honesty of your post. I am definitely afraid of losing a lot and then regaining. That would be devastating.
Congratulations on everything and thank you for the warnings!

Topic: RE: First day back to work
Hey.. we had the same surgeon. =] Grats on getting back to work and BIG GRATS on wearing that blouse!!

Topic: RE: What did you eat today?
I SUCKED today.
B: Nothing. Well, coffee.
L: A couple bites of a pizza and a few bites of salad.
D: Baked chicken breast (which I OVER ATE because I felt like I had to make up for my crappy food choices earlier and I felt like a poo afterward)
I have been having issues eating enough.. calorie count is usually around 500. I'm working on it, though. =]

Topic: Hey, fellow Californians!
Just thought I'd pop on over to the local board and say hi.
I had the BEST day today.. I started my new job (and it ROCKS!) and then when I got home, The Cowboy (my SO) had cleaned the ENTIRE house!! On the downside.. I didn't get enough protein. It's ok, though.. tomorrow is another day!
I hope ya'll had a great Monday!
