Medi-Cal in California

I can say just keep on the ins company. hound them if you must! I did. They probably knew me by first name by the time i was finished with them! lol  If you haven't already, call the health plan youre with and talk to them directly about what they cover and "Who" they will refer you to see. I went to a completely different DR for my consults and was told by them they take my ins... yadda yadda... but in reality the INS sent me to someone completely different. Luckily he was an amazing surgeon! Good luck on your journey. Keep me updated !!!! 

What process did you have to go through to be approved by Medi-Cal Health Net?

I had to first have my primary submit for the surgery then of course i had the ins company say i needed to do a 6 mo. nutritionist . but that i only did twice because she kept pushing diet pills on me, and i told my dr and he said youre done goin there. then it was on to the endocrinologist for a YEAR before he would give me a letter of necessity for WLS. so after that i had my consult with the bariatric surgeon  of the ins companies choice... from there it was 2 nut appointments which I had to pay for ( $80 dollars each) and the psych eval ($500) which i had to pay for. other than that my medi-cal payed for the rest. it was a long process, i called my ins company every other day, I think they knew me by first name! The medical group I had back then really sucked and was a pain in the ass so I just fought hard for what I wanted. Health net doesnt use that medical group anymore! 

Would you recommend health net over blue cross ?

I have never dealt with Blue Cross, so I cant say. I do know I have never had any issue getting what I need or want from Health Net. That being said, It does have alot to do with the particular medical group you have.
