hello :)

hoping to attract those of you who go to fremont kaiser bariatrics.

so, i did the orientation, and now i'm meeting one on one with the surgeon today.  anyone that has gone through the whole process know how long it really takes?  i'm hoping to knock all of the appts out fast so that i can get the Sleeve done.

i haven't lost any weight since my first weigh in, but hopefully they give me a decent number to lose and not something outrageous like 30 or 40 lbs.  i'm 235 right now, i think.

thanks and hope to get good support here!

i have 20 lbs to lose before i can have surgery.  very difficult for me considering i can't lose weight on my own, but i'm gonna do it cause i want to succeed. :)

People have successfully appealed the pre-op weight loss requirement, though of course no one at Kaiser is going to tell you that. You would have to file a grievance. You should make a complaint to the DMHC (dept of managed health care) at the same time. There is NO evidence that mandatory pre-op weight loss makes bariatric surgery any more successful.

Here is the link to the DMHC statement on this subject:

And here's the statement from the ASMBS:

Do keep in mind that if/when you win this, Kaiser will send you out to an outside surgeon for your surgery. But they will send you to someone reputable.

They don't require any classes beforehand? I am southern california and the Kaiser here requires a 12 week Options class before you can get your referral for surgery and meet with the surgeon

How did this go for you?

Did you lose the weight (they asked for about 10% weight reduction at Kaiser SSF); or did you get the appeal?

I was given a target of 290 (I was 323 when i went in)....and that was quite a while ago.  I think i am there now....and am going in today for my appt with a surgeon.

Thanks
