Kaiser WLS Journey...

Hello All,

I just got a tentative Surgery date and I'm SOOO beyond excited! I had to share.

I started the process to get surgery by asking my PCP for a referral to get WLS. He told me I needed to attend a class and after that e-mail him and he would forward my referral to the Fremont Bariatric Program. I took the class in Jan, got a referral to attend an Orientation in Fremont on Feb 26, from there, I had an appt with my (kaiser) surgeon on Mar 15, that day I asked for authorization for the DS,(see note below) was scheduled for the Psych Eval April 11th and 2 weeks later (TODAY) had my consult with Dr Rabkin. AND they scheduled me for surgery on May 24th. Crazy fast~

Any questions, feel free to PM me.

Note:
I chose the DS for several reasons.
1) BEST chance for high % EWL.
2) BEST chance for MAINTAINING that weight loss.
3) NO Dumping Syndrome.
4) Able to continue taking NSAIDS
5) I didn't want a kitchen sink for a stomach (basically just a vessel with a drain hole)
I could go on and on but you get the idea.

Did I mention I'm BEYOND excited?

Those that have gone before you, had a bigger fight on their hands to get the DS.  My approval came from DMHC back in Feb '08.  It's great that folks don't have to go that route to get the DS now.  Kaiser lost several battles with DMHC.

I don't regret my DS at all.  I was 4 yrs out last month.  Congrats.  Dr Rabkin is great.
