Kaiser Fremont question?

Hello! I'm new here but I thought I'd see if anyone else had their surgery through Kaiser Fremont. My surgeon is Dr. Dutta and he approved me for the surgery. He said I'd receive a call from the coordinator in a few weeks to schedule my surgery and that was on Jan. 23rd and I haven't heard anything since. How long should I wait until I give them friendly reminder pokes? Two months? Anyone else had their surgery through Kaiser? How long did it take to hear from the coordinator? Thanks!

Dr. Dutta reviews his charts in a timely manner and doesn't let the charts sit on his desk. He usually gives them to the surgery scheduler within 2 weeks. I know that the surgery schedule is pretty full and there is a waiting list. Call and ask to speak with Nancy, the person who does the scheduling. She is the gate keeper and at this point in time, you will not be "bugging" them. She is very busy, so friendly reminders are not out of line. When you talk to her, ask to be placed on the cancelation list, so that you can possibly have your surgery, sooner than later. April is already booked from what I have gathered from people at the support group.

Best of luck to you!! I really liked Dr. Dutta.

I also had my surgery at Kaiser Fremont.  I had a wonderful experience, I had Dr. Chu.  I would  give Nancy a call.  She is very nice, but remember the best angle with her is to kill her with kindness.  I would keep calling every 2 weeks until you get your date.

I wish you the best of luck.

Dr. Dutta was my surgeon. If you email him he always gets back to you promptly. You're in good hands with him.

I have my first psych eval on May 22. I did the overview last friday. Does everyone have to have the psych eval before going to orientation? Another question I have is if I should start losing weight now or wait till my first appt with the psychologst? I had a weight check on Saturday but no measurements. Thanks--Lisa

Do orientation do you mean the group class?
You should definetely starting losing weight now. They don't go by measurements, just your weight.

It was an overview class. It just gave group of people information on the different options to us. After the class I called my pcp and she made the referral to the bariatrics dept. I want to start the 1200 calorie diet now but I'm afraid they won't approve me. I am almost a 42 bmi but I also have sleep apnea, pre diabetic, osteoarthritis. So I don't know?

Hello!

I went through the orientation, meeting surgeon, dietician and Nancy.  Next step is pysch eval but that can't be scheduled until I am at 3-5 lbs of goal weight before surgery (20%).  I hear there is a 6 week waiting list for pysch and surgery is a waiting list for like June or July :-(

How did you get the pysch so quickly?  I know people waitng for a month or so and they are at goal before surgery weight.

I think I have to see the psych to see if I qualify for the process? I'm not sure. The whole thing is confusing.
