Hello Everyone,

I am writing this in hope for some answers :) I have been having pain on and off for quit a few years, yesterday i was in so much pain that I was taken to the ER where they finally have done the proper tests to find out that i have three gallstones. Now I am in the pre-op stages of having bariatric surgery...i am hoping to get in at the latest April. I am switching from Kaiser to Blue Shield and I was just wondering if there is ANYONE out there that has had their surgery thru blue shield/John Muir that has had their gallbladder removed a the same time as their bariatrics surgery? Please advise. I seen a surgeon today at Kaiser and he told me that it is probably better to just wait and get both done at the same time but he was unable to tell me ofcourse if the surgeon would do both at the same time although he did tell me that a long time ago they would automatically remove your gallbladder at the same time as bariatrics surgery. I am hoping that someone out there has experienced this please help!!!

Thank you all very much in advance!

It depends upon the individual surgeon. Mine refused to remove a perfectly healthy organ, but in your case it would definitely be different. It can't hurt to ask when you go in for your consultation!

Desiree,

I've heard of having it at the same time but didn't.  I actually had mine out before WLS.  Recovery was a week off and I was back in the saddle.  I had a John Muir Surgeon Dr. Baker take mine out.  Check with Anne Timberlake and she can give you some good advice.

See you this afternoon.

Hugs,
Barb
