I think i know which group you attended.
But i have attended th ame Dr groups in San Jose and didn't get that vibe there, he knows he's not my surgeon. I had mine in Kaiser SF. I found the group by looking on line for something closeby

I've been told by people who go to more than one that the San Jose group is the best. Part of it is that we have a lot of regulars, I think, so there is less focus on any one person and lots of questions get asked which can  make them quite lively at times -- in a good way!

But which support group you get the most from with is a personal thing. I'm not trying to say the OP has to love the Sac group. I am just mystified as to how someone criticizing Kaiser was a 'nightmare'.

After all, when I had Kaiser, it seems like all I had to do was say "Kaiser" and people would start *****ing to me about them. It's like criticizing Kaiser is a national pasttime and I definitely got used to it!

I would be totally embarassed if I attended a support group, and then told them that I'm from Alta Bates, and the leader of the group started bi*ching about how much he/she does not like the practices of Alta Bates. I think that's inappropriate and can be a 'kill joy" for someone who is just attending to get support, feel welcome, and get some attention (if needed). That sort of a "welcome" can lead to someone "shutting down" and not asking questions that they normally would have out of concern that their questions are not welcome.

Everybody is different, some are more sensitive than others. I think the surgeon was out of line! If he does not want Kaiser to "dump off their patients" to his group for "freebie support', then he should have just a CLOSED GROUP!  My 2 Cents

Kaiser people come to his other support group that I go to all the time and there is no issue. I think that was just Ruggie's speculation as to what might have caused the situation but that doesn't make it true.
