Hi!
I also just posted on your thread on the main board.
I'm in the bay area as well, and we have a wonderful group of  people in our support group. Come meet us! New people are always welcome, and your support person is welcome as well.
Most of the people in the group have had the DS (duodenal switch), or are working towards it, but people with other surgeries are welcome as well, and certainly people who are still exploring and learning about all their options. We meet in the theater building of Hoover Middle School (or maybe it's called a junior high school, I can never remember) from 6-8 pm on Wednesday evening. It's at 1635 Park Ave. in San Jose.
The support group is a great way to learn about wls from people who actually live with it. Our group is very informal and friendly and includes some very well informed people who will talk about their experiences in an open and honest manner.
If you have any questions, just send me a pm.

There are a ton of support groups in this area. Every hospital that does bariatric surgery has them. So do a lot of the surgeons. There is also a group that gets together socially every month that started from this board. We meet up in the Costra County area -- Concord, Martinez -- for lunch once a month. The next meeting is in Oct. and we're going out to Placerville to explore Apple Hill.

Hello Melissa,

I see that you are having surgery done by Dr. Otero, that is the surgeon for John Muir in Concord correct? I am going to add you if you dont mind so that I can get your input on your whole process and how it all went for you because im thinking of switching to John Muir and getting my surgery done by Dr. Otero.

THank you :)

Hello Everyone,

We should totally start some kind of support group in the bay area maybe where we meet up from time to time to discuss our struggles and have fun! I live in Oakley and work in Pittsburg.

Hi D -

I also live in Oakley, there are a few support groups here.  One is the 4th Tuesday of every month at  Sutter Delta Medical Center – Education Room,   6:30pm – 8:00pm,  3901 Lone Tree Way, Antioch, CA 94509

There is also (posted on the cali board) the Nor Cal Losers lunch that is usually at Coco's in Concord - usually around the 2nd Sat of every month. In October they are going to Apple Hill.

and last but not least there is an OH support Squad group that meets in the Brentwood area, go in to my groups and join.  Right now they are looking for a new place for meetings but the meetings should start up again in October.

All three groups are very helpful and a wonderful group of people.

Hope this helps. :)
