Yeah you will find that even within Kaiser, their programs differ vastly. The Kaiser Fremont program endorses the use of protein shakes to supplement protein intake. I have found that my protein needs are actually much higher than what the 'nuts' say it is and as such, eating that much protein would be too difficult with my new sized stomach.
If I just eat my minimal protein requirements- I dont lose weight but when I increase my protein, something within my body says "Cool, she's not starving us" and I drop weight much easier and quicker. I shoot for 120 grams of protein a day.....nearly impossible to 'eat' that much and not risk stretching my new tool. Mildly difficult even with a shake. Right after surgery it is not possible to get the intake you need and it is very important for healing to have that protein.
Everyone has an opinion and all nuts/programs will differ. In the end you have to do what works for you and what you are most comfortable with. There is a lot of information you can gain from speaking with other bypass patients at support groups.
Good luck in your journey to a healthier you. Best decision I ever made.
