Two Months and I still cant eat, Is this normal?
Had RNY surgery on May 23, 2011
In my 4th week (on jello and liquids only) I started getting nausea and vomiting. Week 4, 5 & 6 I was nauseated and vomiting 24/7 and ended up having to go in and get IVs to rehydrate.
I tried 5 medications and nothing worked. Now I have a vomiting fit for 10 to 24 hour if I eat one tiny bite of food.
My co-worker said she had the same problem but it all passed and got better after 3 months. My surgeon is concerned and wants to do tests but I think it will pass. Although I will do what ever they tell me to do.
Anyone else have this problem and when did it pass?

It's not normal if you're chewing well, eating slow, not drinking with meals. You should be able to tolerate some soft foods at this point. Vomiting 24/7 should make you concerned. I'd see your surgeon for testing. Not every patient is the same, and you can't think your situation is OK, when compared to another post op. Each patient has some slightly different issues, and yours may something that needs medical attention. DAVE

Nausea and vomiting is a big indicator of dehydration; I'm glad you got the IV's.
You should be able to eat soft or pureed foods by now; could you be suffering from a stricture? You might ask your surgeon to do an EDG to check to make sure your stoma isn't healing too small.
Try pureed soups, refried beans, etc.
Good luck.

There is a very good chance you have a stricture and that won't pass or resolve on it's own.
