Major Checking In (long post) almost 1yr post op RNY
Hello again everyone.
I have wanted to post new pictures for a while and I finally got around to it. I even changed my avatar pic. (lol)
My weight loss is amazing. I began this whole pre-op journey almost two years ago. My RNY surgery was July 20th 2010, so I am almost at a 1yr anniversary. A few days before surgery I weighed close to 255Lbs and Since then I have lost about 112Lbs. Last July I wore a size 24. Now I am down to 143Lbs and wear about a size 10. I can hardly belive that I can actually shop for clothes in any womens fashion store and regular department store misses and petite sizes. No more plus size only stores for me. What a huge change!! I have been going to the thrift store and buying clothes since my weight has changed so quickly even week to week. I do not want to spend money on new clothes that I will shrink out of within the next week or month. LOL.
My new onepiece swimsuit tag shows size 8 (smile). My wonderful sister took me shopping briefly yesterday, so now I can go in the pool. I am very excited about my new body.
Good gosh, I have not been this thin in over 20 years and I love it.
WOW!!! Somehow, I knew in my head the expected weight loss, however, seeing myself in the mirror is slightly strange and fantastic!
Now, for my hysterectomy. I am recovering well, but slowly, three weeks out from my complete hysterectomy. I have a "beautiful" 6 inch long horizontal bikini line cut with some stiches remaining. Dr. says the scar should heal up fairly well and not be noticeable in a swim suit. Now I am on a low dose hormonal skin patch since they removed my ovaries. We shall wait a month or two to find out if my body adjusts well, or if I need different hormone replacement therapy.
Other news: Our main bathroom and only shower has been out of service for a week with, workers coming and going to fix the problems. Arrgg. Thankfully as of last night the bathroom and shower are working now. I had about as much as I could tolerate with the workmen coming in and out all day for nearly six days. God willing, we will not need any more home repairs for a long time.
Dad had surgery for prostate cancer last week and he is recovering. Sadly it is a difficult road for him and our entire family since Mom died of breast cancer back in fall of 2009. He was diagnosed shortly before she died. (thank god he did not tell her because there was no point in upsetting an already dying woman) Since I am not superwoman(as I would love to be somedays) and taking care of Dad is too much for me right now. I have asked other people to step up and pitch in. God Bless family and friends.
Holiday/Vacation Plans: My DH is working on our holiday plans and they are looking good, we are hoping to have a full two weeks plus a couple days in November. Planning to go again for a few days to London and Folkestone England to see hubby's family and friends. Then hop on a plane for our first trip to Egypt. First we go to Cairo Egypt for a couple of days and then on to several days in the sea side area called Sharm el-Sheikh Egypt (a large tourist area with lots of beaches on the Red Sea). I know we will do plenty of walking and sight seeing as well as relaxing on the beach. We also hope to do a guided bus tour from Sharm el-Sheikh Egypt into the Holy City of Jerusalem for one day. LOL This will be a slightly busy vacation, but we are careful to plan relaxing days in between busydays. I have already begun my research into travel tips for RNY/WLS patients and our destinations so I can be prepared. This will be my first trip overseas since my RNY surgery last year in July 2010.
Please post or message me any travel tips you have used successfully. I would be grateful.
One final note, I attend Terry Row's monthly OC Weight Loss Support group in city of Orange as many months as I can. She and herco-facilitator do a great job organizing the group. I always get good information, reminders for staying healthy, and once in a whilevitamin or protein samples. This greatly helps me on my journey.
I hope everyone has a good day. Remember to take care of you, eat healthy, and exercise, exercise, exercise!
Best Always, Amy S.
You rock my friend. Congrats for all of your wow moments too. Sounds like you're doing well and taking each day in a positive way. I will keep your Dad in prayers that he does well with his surgery and recovery.
How exciting for your vacation at the end of the year too. I am so happy that you are doing so well and living life to the fullest.
Hugs,
Barb
