Thoughts from a 8 year postie
Hi I am just over 8 years out I was 349 and currently am 220 or so so I am still 130 down from my heaviest. I was at about 150 for about 5 yearrs then got sloppy and let old habits sink in. Ok having said that I am back on track. Ok want to share with you all I don't post here much or read much so perhaps have no reputation here but I want to share from my heart. Please know that under the weight there are issues,so many people have struggles after the surgery,me personally I got major major depression tot he point of being suicidal several times. I am doing fine now but have done a lot of work with 2 therapists one regular and one eating disorders. I have seen and heard of many people who have had wls end up getting divorced, become promiscuous, become heavy drinkers, get majorly depressed, thrill seeking behaviours. Why because there is more to obese than weight pleaes please take the time to be good to youself love yourself be gentle to yourself yes I know the surgery is lifesaving I agree that you need it. I DO NOT REGRET MY DECISION. please maqke a promise to yourself to focus on you not only the weight loss but all of you because you are more than an obese person you are a unique indiviual who is pecious wonderful and worthy off a beautiful life. hugs and love and heartfelt love to all....Lisa B
Thank you Lisa for the information and sharing your story, this should not be stepped into without thinking about it first and getting all the information you need on the Journey. There is somuch to absorb, should not walk into this blindly, and know all the ups and downs after surgery, and stick to the program faithfully no matter what.
I've done alot of research and I"m attending the classes and doing alot of reading, hope I can get my body and mind ready to this, there is no set date for me yet, I"m trying to lose to 40 pounds before surgery, this is not easy. I'm going to have the RNY and be thin for the first time in my life, its what I want for me and my health.
So God Bless , come and talk with us, keep intouch, we are here for you too.

Melody, I wish you mcuh sucess in your wls journey. I had to lose weight too to get my surgery. My surgeon required me to lose 19 pounds. IN my case it most likely saved my life as one month after my inital wls I ended up with a potential life threatening complication. Losing the weight is so essental you can do it. Lisa
