Don't want to be a failure

Hi there everyone,
I am 2 years out from RNY.. and while I never got to my goal weight, I was happy to get down to 205.. down 160 pounds.  However, in the last few months, I have gained about 20 pounds.  I don't want to get on the scale because I'm scared it might be more. I do not want to fail at this!  Last night I was watching TLC and they had a re-run of the lady that weighed 900 pounds, who died a week after her WLS.  It made me so sad.. reminded me of why I got this surgery in the first place.  I need to get back on track.  Does anyone have any useful suggestions that helped them?  I have done the 5 day pouch test before.. and I felt like I was starving for the first 2 days.  I am going to go back to basics.. it's just hard because I can eat anything.. I don't dump or feel sick from anything.  If anyone can think of anything that they want to suggest, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for reading my rambling

Journal any foods or beverage you consume. Write eveything down, including your mood at the time. Then make notes half an hour later about what you're thinking. Many times you can see a pattern of poor diet, or eating at stressful times or when you're angry, etc.  One big tip I'd strongly suggest, is to attend support meetings every month.  I've attended 3 meetings a month for more than 4 of the 5 years of my post op life.  You'll learn how to cope with post op life, and likely learn something new and beneficial at every support meeting.  Statistically, it's been shown that those post ops who attend regular support meetings are the patients who do the best with their wt loss surgery. Believe it or not... I was told to -

Just breathe

And this is reality and life...  You can do anything you set your mind too.  Go back to basics which may include doing 2 shakes and a meal, cuting out the carbs and other bad things.  You can do it, good luck!!!

Thanks for the advice everyone.. I called my surgeons office, and they also told me to journal everything I eat or drink.  Plus they want me to come in and see the nutritionist.  They are giving me until July and then see how much I have to lose.  Guess tomorrow is starting with a shake.. you know much I hate those things???? LOL

hello Christina what type of Protein Powder are you drinking ?  I"ve been on this journey since March 4th, and still no date for my RNY surgery, but my doctor wants me to lose 50 pounds, so its been a slow process too, just one step at a time.
I went to Walmart and got the Prure Protein Powder, it tastes great and is very smooth, i use chocolate and mix it with Raspberry Ice Crystal Light instead of skim milk, it tastes good, try it.
Good luck to you, I went in to the Bariatric Clinic last week and did not lose a pound for the whole month, so don't get worried if that happens, its possible.  I've only lost 11 pounds so far, have 40 to go.  Have to read the book by Susan Maria Leach, called :
Before & After  Living and Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery.
very good book, helps alot.
Good luck to you Christina.......we are here for you.
God Bless.....Melody

Hi there,
I don't use protein powder, excpet in recipes I get from Eggface's website.  My doctor doesn't want post-ops getting their protein from shakes, they want us getting solid protein that stays in the pouch longer.  When I first had my sugery, I did the Wal-Mart stuff, and it was fine.
I actually have an appt with my doctor next month, she wants to see me, and see what's going on, before the re-gain gets too high.. so we will see what she says.

Thanks for the support, and good luck with your journey :-)

You're not alone, please remember that! Go back to the basics, most importantly, use the bread-size plate for your meals, don't drink anything 45 minutes before/after you eat, protein first, you know the drill. Hang in there, your pouch still works! You know that 12-step slogan One Day At A Time? Well, for us, let's try One Meal At A Time.

Thanks.. yeah, I talked to my doctor's office today, and they actually told me to stay away from the shakes. She said that I'll just be hungry again later, so to leave them alone. I did really well yesterday, and so today is day 2.  I am doing a bunch of cooking this weekend to ensure I have the right stuff in my lunchbox.

Thanks for the support everyone :-)
