Ok getting Gastric bypass by need to loss 10lbs.
I haven't had surgery yet, but my doctor gave me some guidelines for before surgery. Supposed to drop my caloric intake to between 1100 and 1400 calories a day, replace one meal with a protein shake, and make sure my protein intake is between 90-120 grams a day. I've already lost 6 lbs in the last 11 days. But don't stress about it too much, you are going to do fine. Hope this helps you.

I'm with Kaiser...they gave us a binder with all kinds of information and a 1200 cal diet they wanted us to follow. In my opinion, if the doc didn't give you specific instructions on what to eat...then I would use any one of the many diets out there...atkins, weigh****chers, nutrasystems, jenni craig...etc. If you're like the rest of us, we could always find a diet to get the weight off...it was after we went OFF the diet that the weight came back.
With that being said, I think Lu is on the right track...get used to putting protein first, lots and lots of water and get an exercise routine in place now. These will be the rules you will follow after surgery...and for the rest of your life!
And just so you understand why the 10lbs need to go....2 reasons basically: 1) the more lbs you lose pre-surgery...the better it will be for your liver-less fatty tissue for the doc to have to contend with during surgery and 2) it shows the doc that you are willing to follow the rules and are serious about the surgery.
Good Luck...you will do Great! and we're always here to help and answer questions ^_^

I've lost a lot of weight waiting for surgery -my advice is similar. Low cal - I eat around 1500-1800 cal/day (but depending on your starting weight that might be too much). I do not attempt to eat low carb, but I try to make sure my main meals come from protein (just eat some chicken/turkey/beef for dinner). I do a meal replacement with muscle milk for breakfast. I snack on fresh fruit. I exercise at least 30-45 5X a week.
I don't know what kind of time frame you have to lose the weight. If you need to do it quickly, there are some quick fix diets to get the weight off. If you have a longer period of time, I recommend just eating a low cal/balanced diet to start learning new habits that will be helpful post-op.

My doctor asked me to lose 10 pounds also. I did the following and am continuing: a protein shake in the morning, apple and string cheese for a snack; lean protein and veggies for lunch; fruit and string cheese or nuts for snack and protein, veggies and a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of carbs for dinner. I also do water aerobics 3-4 times a week. The first two weeks I lost nearly 12 pounds. Good luck to you.
