New to site! Just refered to Kaiser Fremont. . .
A boy I had been dating was really into working out in Crossfit gyms, and the diet a lot of their members follow is the Paleo diet. . . .They jokingly refer to it as the "Caveman" diet, because your style of eating mimics the way the Cavemen used to eat. Here is the textbook definition:
"...combinations of lean meats, seafood, vegetables, fruits, and nuts. By eating the foods that we are genetically adapted to eat, followers of the Paleo Diet are naturally lean, have acne-free skin, improved athletic performance, and are experiencing relief from numerous metabolic-related and autoimmune diseases."
No dairy and no grains. It's a hard one to transition too, but I noticed that I felt so much better when I did it. . .When I was full, it never was that "heavy" full. I ate a lot of eggs for breakfast and a ton of avocado. . .At this point when I was doing the diet, I was too scared of the scale -- but my clothes felt better. . .If anyone is interested, I have a couple of great recipe websites / blogs!

I will also be attending the 27th orientation! yeah!
I am disappointed as I attended the regular orientation in Manteca and the person giving information said they use the weight recorded at drs office in last year as your starting weight. Surgery department just returned my call and said they weigh you at the orientation and first surgeon consultant and the surgeon will decide which of those two weights to use.
I started back on 1/11 and orientation was 1/12. I heard we had to lose 10% and all these appts. I have completed blood work, EKG, mammogram, pap smear, drs referral and approved within 2 weeks. began losing the 10% and now down to almost 5% as of this morning.
So now I feel discouraged as that 5% won't even count and I don't want to throw it away as I have worked hard for the past 3-4 weeks with diet and exercising. just discouraged that it won't even matter. I even was higher weight than last recorded drs appt about 3-4 months ago by home scale but thought I could lose those 6 pds easily (difference in scales and weight recorded).
anyway, looking forward to really beginning the surgery part of this journey as I have considered this for 4 years now.

COngrats on your loseing and orientaion... Kaiser fremont uses your heighest weight recorded in the last year in kaiser system.. at least that is what i was told and that is what dr used when i went i am loseing my 10% for them.i went to orientation in jan and meet my surgeon a few weeks ago he went from my heighest weight recorded in the last year with kaiser. So you weight lose will count as long it was recorded in your medical records and it is great you started now .. Good luck and let me know what surgeon you get..
Maybe we'll bump into each other at orientation?! I am so excited!
Now, I know they weigh you at the orientation, but they will go off of your highest recorded weight prior? I actually weigh more than what I think my highest documented weight is (ugh). . .So if I started losing now, would it count towards my 10%? I have had my orientation date for a little over a week, and I have been holding off on trying to lose any weight because I didn't want to somehow plateau and take extra longer to make the goal.
Now here's my next question -- I know going to orientation will not necessarily mean we are getting the surgery -- but what exactly would disqualify from getting it? Clearly we meet the minimum requirements, but what would make them tell me no?
I've been overweight my entire life. Literally. I don't think I have weighed under 200lbs since high Freshman year of high school (1999-2000). . .and my highest was 302 and that was when I was in labor with my daughter. I have tried every diet in the book, exercise, etc... and I feel like this would be greatly instrumental in adding more years to my life. . .because even though I have no co-morbidities, everyone in my family has died from Cancer and Diabetes and Hypertension runs in my family as well.
Good luck, ladies :)

I am so excited, too! Were you in the row behind me?! I wasn't sure since there was so many people there. . .I was wearing a gray sweater & a purple shirt. . .had my hair pulled up with a head band and I wear glasses. . .
Congrats on getting your date so soon! That's awesome! I am looking forward to hearing how everything goes. . .You better fill me in, lady :) Who is your surgeon?!
My date is scheduled for March 11th. . .Like everything else that has happened in regards to this program, it fell into place - the 11th is actually a furlough day at my work -- so I am not missing out on any pay or anything taking time off! WHOO HOO! I just got my gym membership tonight so my girlfriend and I will be up bright and early at 5am tomorrow and back at 7:30 for a Zumba class! I would like to lose at LEAST 10 lbs before the 11th. . .and I know I can. . .
My surgeon is Dutta, so I am going to be looking up everything I can on him!
Once again, congrats!!!!
