Plastic Surgery

Hello all. I have a question I am hoping someone here can answer. I am thinking about having some surgery to "clean up" the flab after over 145 pounds of weight lost. I currently have Kaiser, which was great for surgery, but not so hot when it comes to plastic surgery. Can anyone suggest a provider I should look into that is more apt to approve this type of procedure?
Many thanks!

Hello Paul,

Ah, this is the ultimate question.  It has become the trend that insurance companies are paying less and less for this although many plastic surgeons consider it "reconstructive surgery" rather than "cosmetic surgery."  Is the excess skin causing any rashes or other medical problems for you?  Many plastic surgeons will take pictures and send them into your insurance company explaining the medical reasons why you need the procedure to be performed.

I know it can be hard to fully appreciate all of the hard work you have done due to the excess skin.  Where do you live in California?  I know an office where they actually specialize in post bariatric reconstruction surgery.   I didn't actually go there for this particular surgery so I don't really know the details, but it might be something for you to look into further.  I might even think that if you called them and asked what types of insurance generally approve this procedure, they might be able to tell you.  For that matter, call any plastic surgeon in your area.

Hope this helps some!  Congratulations on your weight loss!

Susan

Thanks for the info. I am in the Central Valley, Modesto. I will check with surgeons in the area.
