Hi. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to talk to a friend who is about to lose his job because of his weight and inability to get around the classroom? I know the law. Aside from that, any suggestions?

When you say talk to a friend, what do you mean?

He's in denial about his weight and the effect on his job. When I bring the subject up, he just gets angry. I'm hoping to talk him into getting the surgery while he has insurance.

It sounds like you're already done what you can to broach the subject of wls and he isn't ready. Each of us reaches the decision to pursue wls in our own time and with the excess weight affecting us in different ways and at different levels. If he isn't ready, he isn't ready. It's unfortunate that by the time he is ready, if ever, he may not have insurance, but if he isn't ready...etc.
When you read on a website like OH, it seems like every MO person in the country has either had wls or is working towards it. In reality, the overwhelming majority of people who meet the standard medical criteria for wls don't have it. There are many reasons for this, and denial is certainly one of them, but there are lots of other reasons as well.
You tried your best. Now it's time to let it go and continue to be a supportive friend in other ways.

Thanks for your advice. Of course, you are right. We're all so funny. We only do things when we're ready! Thanks again for being there.

Do you know for 100% authority that he is about to lose his job because of his weight?  Will telling him somehow jeopardize your job?

If no then just tell him and let the chips fall where they may.  Just know that it might not get the result you anticipate.  As the others have said if your friend isn't ready they just aren't ready and to ME in order for WLS to work LONG term I mean after the glammer and glitz of losing wears off you have to go into this READY to change your LIFE and your RELATIONSHIP with food.
