Psych Eval Tomorrow.....
So I have my appt for the psych evaluation tomorrow at Richmond Kaiser. Does anyone know if you find out right away that you passed? I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't pass but I was told that once I pass the psych eval then I can make the appt. with the case manager and schedule a surgery date. Does anyone know what questions will be asked? Thanks!
Yes, when I had my psych eval with Dr. Schnurr, a Psychologist at Kaiser Richmond Bariatric Program, she discussed what her recommendation was going to be with me after the eval and it was positive.
She did a Mental Status Exam to assess my state of mind (ie - range, quality, depth of perception, though processes, feelings) and determine whether or not I am appropriate for surgery at this point. She asked a bunch of questions about my diet and weight loss history, medical history, why I want the WLS, my understanding of the weight loss surgery process, family history, what I've done and am doing to prepare for surgery, how I plan to utilize surgery as a tool to maintain weight loss, my support system, and my mental health history/treatment.
My impression was that if the Psychologist has concerns about someone's fitness for surgery, she will discuss the concerns with them and help them develop a plan of action to address the issues - whether it be linking them to counseling, the nutritionist, or other services.
I don't think the Psych Eval is as daunting as it sounds, then again, I'm a Social Worker and am familiar and pretty comfortable with the process.

Wow! Has Richmond changed! When I went thru the eval, all she asked me about was what meds I had taken, when and if I still needed them. She seemed more concerned about my medical record not being up to date (I had been off certain meds for over 2 years and it wasn't indicated in my charts). She did let me know at the end that I was 'movin on' ^_^
