Wait times for surgery - so cal kaiser

Has anyone with Kaiser in So. Cal finished Options recently? I would like an idea of how long I can expect to wait after I finish in Mid February.

They said something like possibly a 6 month wait - is that realistic?

I finished my options classes Oct18th and had surgery Dec 11th......I requested to go to Dr. Billy in Ventura and I was accommodated quickly with his office. Kaiser is backing them up now though too......I am from the Lancaster/Palmdale area.......I had a girl in my class that was the same day as me and we were roomies in the hospital and another girl in our class just finished all her pre op testing and she might not be having surgery until March.....Hope that helps you...You might want to research surgeons and see what the times are for waiting. Also, ask if you can start your testing before your classes are over...see if that helps you

Thank You!!!! I am actually doing extremely well yesterday and today!!!! I have had a rough week prior to that...I really had to up my liquids and protein and stop taking my blood pressure meds....Now all seems fine!!!!! This has been a blessing to me....It has been at least 4 years since I have weighed less than 280 and I am now at 279......so I am breaking little milestones for me. I look forward to following your story and if you have any questions feel free to ask.....If Kaiser will let you use Dr. Billy in ventura, He is Amazing!!!!!!

I started my options classes in march  and finshed them in june. I had surgery on dec 8th with Pacific Bariatric. I have heard kaiser is not taking any new referrals for surgery for at least another year bc they have too many request for surgery.

I would look into having surgery in san diego with Pacific Bariatric. Check with kaiser and see if how much ur plan will cover if you go with PB.

Good luck

I think it depends on your Kaiser location and surgery location.  I'm in Ontario, and the people taking/graduating from Fontana are definitely looking at 4-6 months before surgery.  We are all scheduled to go through Pacific Bariatric.  I didn't know there were other doctors we could use.

In our class, our only option for surgery is Pacific Bariatric.   They have so many classes taking place out here that Pacific is totally backed-up.  However, I met a lady from Pomona that went through the" whole" process in about six months.  My process took a year almost to the date of surgery.

So depending on where and who is doing your surgery will most likely determined your surgery wait time.

Whatever the wait, use your time wisely to prep.  After the surgery the biggest battle is the mind.

I had been whinning and posting on here about my waiting but I finally got my actual official date of May4th. I had finished the classes Sept 30th and am going with pacific baractric. I think if you can arrange the Ventura location like the previous poster did that would be the best bet if you wanted it ASAP
I hope you are enjoying the classes

I agree with BigCaliSmile. I finished  my options classes Oct 4 and my surgery is scheduled for April 4. So you are looking at about a 6 month wait. Have I had known about Dr Billie sooner I would of checked in with him. Best of luck and keep us posted.
