Alright I know I should be happy and jumping for joy but I cant. Just got my date April 4 wow that sounds like an eternity away. I counted 110 days. I have jumped through so many hoops to get this far and it is still 110 days away. That is Kaiser for you. I want to be thank full and happy but the date just made me cry when I opened it. I was really hoping that it would be much earlier. Please make me see the brighter side of things because I know feeling this way is selfish and I hate being that kind of person.

The wait will be worth it. You don't say when you started the process with Kaiser, but it does take time.  Whether you've done a required wt loss attempt, classes, board approval for surgery, number of tests the surgeon wants based on your health issues, and the patient demand for surgery--all of these are factors in the process.  The surgeon may be extra busy too.  I have Kaiser, and I had surgery with a private surgical center I was referred to by Kaiser.  But I feel I probably got one of the best surgeons around, as he'd done around 5000 of the LAP RNY surgeries when I had surgery in 2006.  I'd highly recommend you attend support groups during the time prior to surgery. You'll learn something new about post op life at every meeting you attend. You'll get to talk to post ops and learn the challenges that you may face, and how others have dealt with them. I can honestly tell you that if you attend 3-4 meetings, you'll likely learn more than you learned in weeks of the required classes with Kaiser. Look at the bright side--at least you will be getting the surgery, paid for by insurance.  Many people don't have insurance, don't have the money to self pay for surgery, or their insurance company has wt loss surgery exclusions. I can understand your frustrations. I had to fight for over 4 years to get my first surgery but the waait and all the hoops I had to jump through was well worth it. I have the same surgeon as Dave and have had a great journey thus far even having to go through a reversal last week due to a medical issue that popped up.

I agree with Dave, you should go to some support groups and learn from everyone elses experiences. The 6 months of classes are great but you learn so much more from us post op's trials and tribulations. I wish I could go to more but I work swings at the momment and do miss them.

Use the time to prepare yourself for the surgery. Keep the faith and the time will fly by so fast and then you will be like the rest of us saying "OMG I cant believe the surgery is tomorrow" LOL

Have a great day.........Rick

I know Kaiser can be a struggle to get through sometimes. I just had my surgery sat the 11th of Dec and just returned home today. I also know kaiser is really backed up in so. cal right now. I chose to go to Dr.  Billy in Ventura and he is an amazing surgeon and Kaiser put me right to him. I had to be really pro active in my care and really advocate for me. If you are waiting on them to get to you, there could be a wait. I do not know what area you are in, but maybe you can get to a different doctor. I started my classes in July and finished in Oct and I already had surgery. I am very happy with the time frame that I had with Kaiser. Good luck in your process!!!!!! I hope you get to your desired goals and believe me it is worth the wait. I cannot even put it all into words yet. Could be the pain meds too though. I have had a very short attention span....Good Luck..Lori

First off I would like to make it very clear you are not being selfish or being any kind of bad person. You are disappointed. It is o.k. to feel disappointed. I would be disappointed too. I agree April does sound like forever away. I don't have Kaiser but you could call the scheduler often and ask if they have had any cancellations. Ask if you can be put on a list for cancellations. The pain in the rear end gets taken care of. Meanwhile I agree go to support groups, learn all you can about the surgery you are going to have. Try different proteins. Get everything ready for when you come home. Have your kitchen stocked BEFORE your surgery. Put the time to good use. Ask questions on line, continue to come here for support. Be productive with your time and April will be here before you know it. I hope you can get it sooner. Keep us posted, we do care about you!

I am still waiting to hear my date (Sigh) at least you know where you stand. I was told Dec then I called Pacific Baratric and they said they are mailing out letters for next year. If you are going to go to one of the specific Kasier Hospitals they warned us in class the extensive wait. I hope some options come up where you may have a choice to comeplete your surgery sooner.

My thoughts are with you..
