Surgeons
Theses surgeons don't do the DS. I don't know whether or not they do the VS.
If you are interested in the DS, there are other docs in the greater bay area who do it and are highly regarded. These include Dr. Rabkin of Pacific Laparoscopy in San Francisco, and whoever is still with Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco. Dr. Jossart recently left Lap Associates and I believe is still somewhere in the bay area, but I don't know anything more than that about him.
Another excellent DS surgeon is Dr. Keshishian, who practices in Delano and Glendale.

Thank you Larra, based on your information I called the Drs office and point blank asked if the Dr did DS and VS and was told yes they do. I then point blank told them those were the only 2 surgeries I was interested in and didn't want to waste their time or my time going to see them and finding out they don't do those types of surgery. She (the receptionist) told me she was going to have the VS done in the next month or two herself and Dr does do the DS on select patients for certain medical reasons. I will be very upset if I go thru everything only to find they do not or won't do either of those procedures. I have to go to the Drs the insurance sends me to and they didn't give me a lot of options.
Thanks,
Rattail

Stephanie, I doubt very much that you have been given accurate information, at least in part. Admittedly I don't know this practice personally, but I suspect they really do offer the VS but don't do the DS. I have been on the DS forum for over 5 years and have NEVER seen either or these names associated with a DS. They is not to say that they aren't good surgeons, just that they don't do the DS.
More to the point, if the DS is what you want, you can probably get it even if they don't do it. Just because your insurance sends you to a certain surgeon doesn't mean you are stuck with that surgeon - you can appeal. If your insurance, which is a contract, covers the DS, and they have no in-network surgeon that does it, they can't just turn around and say sorry, you can't have it. Assuming you qualify medically, they have to provide what the contract says they will provide. They may fight you, but you can appeal, and you can win.
I will send you more info in a pm - in case you don't know (you're new here) people can communicate privately with each other via pm - just look at the top of your screen and you will see that you have X number of unread messages.

Both are very very good surgeons. I have heard them speak over the years and Dr. Coirin did my RNY. Coirin also does general surgery...Which can be good (he knows his way around the systems). I think this Monday is a support group open to the public...a lot of good info. It's in the back area of McHenry Village (first Monday of each month).
