Pre-Op Weight Loss Troubles
RNY on 11/01/12
I started this journey on March 15, 2010. I was supposed to have my surgery in mid September. It is now November and I have been yoyo-ing between the same 15 pounds as when I started. I cannot get past 287 and every week I do a weigh in I get more scared that I am going to lose this incredible chance. Can someone please help, my will power is down to nothing and I keep wanting to eat, I started at 292, and I weighed myself today and I was 295 and I have a weigh-in this FRIDAY! My doctor says that she'd like to see at least half the weight gone by December, thats 12 pounds and I have 25 total to lose! THIS SUCKS! What to do? I HATE being like this I am so sick of being the funny fat girl with a 'pretty face' I didn't let it bother me before but it's slowly starting to affect me. At first I thought I was just "thick" but not I realize I am HUGE...and I need something to stick to so that I can lose this weight and get this surgery. I am mentally ready and all my testing is done they are just waiting on my weight loss :(
Believe me we all know how hard it is to lose weight. Try eating the diet you will have after surgery. Eat protein first then some vegetables and a little fruit. Drink lots of water. Eat slow and chew, chew, chew. The protein helps to keep you feeling full longer. I can guess that your nerves hep you to eat too. Good Luck. Keep us posted.
If the pre-op weight loss requirement is a requirement of your insurer, you can make them drop that requirement by filing a grievance. I will send you a pm with the link to the statement from the DMHC (dept of managed health care) that confirms that pre-op weight loss, or lack thereof, does not influence the results of wls.
If the requirement is by the surgeon, you are stuck with it, unless you change surgeons (as far as I know).

if you are looking to have a exercise buddy i would be game. I wouldnt mind walking locally as long as you dont expect me to go jogging, or maybe even play some badmiton, just to break the grind of being sentendary. I am in La puente i need to incorporate some activity in to my lifestyle I dont want to wait till later :) Just let me know and I agree those protein shakes really fill you up and curb your appetite. :)
When I started my process last year, I did the same thing. I would play with the same 5 pounds for months. Then finally, I got my drive back when I started going to the support meetings. We have all been there, but you have to get mad, then get determined to get to your goal.
I really found what helped me out was to do the following:
1. Once I started to tell everyone (I mean anyone who would listen) I WAS going to have WLS. That made me accountable to everyone around me.
2. I joined Weigh****chers and sometimes went to several meeting a week at my lunch. This helped keep me focused on what was truly important to me.
3. I made a little investment for to my health and bought a wrist pedometer. My goal was to hit 10K steps per day. For me that ended up being about 4.5 miles. I started off slowly and tried for at least 2 times a week, then 3 times a week, ect. The other days I made sure I hit 5K.
Honestly, once I started to walk, the weight started dropping off. I got to my goal weight fairly quickly. Good luck & i hope you hit your goal soon.
