Only when I laugh

I'm having my surgery on Monday.  I'm nervous & scared, but I do have one odd little question: After surgery, is it going to hurt when I laugh?

I say for me, Yes,  it hurt for about a week and a half.  It hurt when I laugh, cough, and sneeze.  But now, that I am 2 and a half week out, I can do all those thing, with no pain.

Congrats on your surgery and praying for you to have a speedy recovery.

I had to *ban* my friends from visiting me because they are too funny! It hurt so much when I laughed for about 3 days. In the hospital I even had a sneeze that I thought was going to kill me. Luckily it only happened once.

Welcome to the ride of your life! Hang on tight.

Good Morning and congratulations for your upcoming surgery.  Pain tolerance is such a personal thing.  For instance some women can have babies natural and others need medication, I've known some people who have caveties filled with no novacaine.  I tend to be one of those who has a fairly high pain tolerance which can sometimes be a good/bad thing.  After my surgery I wasn't using the pain pump as much as the nurse felt I should.  My pain wasn't so intense with laughing and coughing as it was when I got out of bed to go walking (and I did that a lot). So my wonderful nurse reminded me that in order to be effective pain meds should be taken at regular intervals which will help shave off the intense pain.  I followed orders and was much more comfortable.  As others have said it is very temporary and the more you move and walk the faster it goes away.

I wish you as little pain as possible and will be keeping you in thought and prayer on Monday.

Hugs,
Barb

Yeah, it's not gonna feel good right after surgery.  However, you will feel a little better everyday.  With in a week (or less) you will be fine.  Good luck on your surgery on Monday.

For me, I have always had a problem with laughing after any and all surgeries for at least 2 weeks.  I do have a high tolerance for pain, but laughing gets those stomach muscles moving and jiggling around so it is a little painful.

It will pass and who knows, maybe it will not bother you as much.  So different for everyone.

Best of luck and may you have an uneventful surgery with speedy recovery.

We will be saving room for you here on the losers bench…..
