Gall Bladder problems after WLS are quite common.  It's the very high protein diet that is necessary to eat.  Many doctors will remove the gall bladder at the time of WLS if it is easily accessable during a Lap procedure. Often times, as in my case, my liver was too large to move without possibly causing damage to it so my gall bladder was left in.  I had stones already and that was why my doctor wanted to take it out.  However, he decided to leave it and said that once I lost weight, if I had problems then, it could be removed with another surgery.  I have been very fortunate thus far and still have my gall bladder nearly 6 1/2 years later.

Gall bladder disease in general is very common in obese individuals so it is not a surprise that it acts ups after WLS.  It probably would have had to be removed at some time anyway.

So don't get upset or nervous about it.  It's a fairly simple surgery even if it is after WLS.

Steph is correct. I know my surgeon puts people on a special medication for the gallbladder if you still have one when he does the surgery. I don't know for how long because I had mine removed about 10 or 11 years ago. If you are having symptoms talk with your surgeon about it. That is what will probably put your mid at ease.

Steph thank you for your excellent post! You provide such great input!
