I have Kaiser and just finished my options classes on Oct 4Th. I was just wondering how long the wait is till they schedule surgery? I was told anywhere from 2 through 4 months. I will be having my surgery in San Diego has anyone else gone there? Thank you for any insight on this journey.

I am in the Harbor City area and my wait time is around 4-6 months from the end of OPTIONS.  Check with your coordinator if Pacific Bariatrics is an option for your surgery. I know quite a few Kaiser Harbor City patients are going with Pacific Bariatric for surgery because their wait time isn't as long.

Hi,
I finished my options classes on September 29th.  The next week they had my referral ready and sent it to Pacific Bariatric.  I was told not to call and wait 10 days for them to contact you because they are very busy.  I waited 6 days and then received a confirmation letter from Tracy at Baldwin Park with an actual signature from a high up at the hospital signing off on my surgery.  You are still responsible for hospital stay, but I was lucky because we are double covered so I do not have to pay a thing.  I recommend checking because some members have to pay like $250 per night depending on coverage.  I called last Thursday because I received that letter on Wednesday telling me to call.  I was able to get an appointment as soon as the next week but wanted Dr.Taller so my appointment is for Monday, November 1st.  I asked if they could give me an estimate when I would have surgery and they said middle on December.  I am so excited because I had heard that they were starting to back up.  If you don't have a specific surgeon you want then you may be able to your appointment much sooner like in a week or so.  Of course you have to have everything completed including seminar, labs, ultrasound, and everything must be sumitted by kaiser and you must summit your packet from the seminar.  We should keep in touch.  I am always looking for people from So Cal kaiser.  If you have any other questions just ask.

Hi Monique,
Thanks for writing back. I was told my doctor had up till end of Nov to sign off on my surgery,. I hope it will not take that long. I was also told not to call because they were very busy. I will need to call tomorrow and see how much I might have to pay, was not prepared to hear that news. I have all of the requirements met so nothing left to do but sit and wait. Congrats on getting in so fast. I am excited and don't even have a appointment yet can only imagine how happy you must be. Please keep in touch and let me know how things are going.
