You only qualify for State disability if you can't work for 8 days, so you have to wait the week, and then your benefits kick in. That is from the state disability web site. Sorry to tell you that. I work in a hospital and it doesn't matter if your there,  you still have to wait the 8 days before the benefits kick in. You might want to clarify that with your job. Did you surgeon already fill in the paper work? Most of them won't until after you have had surgery.
