Okay everyone,

I am the big lurking on the board but now I am scared.

I am scared of the slight chance of dying because my kids really need me and I am all they have.

The way I am dealing with this is thinking of the positive of living longer because I will not be over weight.

I know I am in good hands.  This hospital specializes in this surgery.  My doctor help Natalie, so much during her time of need.   So, I know he is caring and takes his job seriously.  I have no current problems that could get in the way, that is why they do all those testing.  I am not scared of changing my eating habits.   I know I have to up my faith, that all will go well.

What are some other ways you dealth with being scared?

Its all going to be okay!!!! I think everyone is scared to have any type of surgery. I thought much like you till the night before surgery, I havent been married long, I have a nephew who I love dearly, what would he do without his favorite aunt? Then he said this to me.....Nothing bad can happen to you if you think positive..... So thats what i did, I thought positive, and had everyones well wishes, and everything turned out fine :-) The key is happy thoughts and if you beleive in it prayer!!! Good luck!

Your right, such wise word from a child.   Positive thoughts and I will use prayer too.
Thanks for the kind words.

You will do great. We all have a bit of fear and anxiety going into this process. You just have to remember that you are in good hands and that the benefit of losing weight and being healthy will benefit you and your family in the long run. You aren't only doing this surgery for yourself... you are doing it for your family. Dr. Taller is great and will talk to you right before surgery and make sure you are ok. Just remember we are all rooting and praying for you.

*hugs*

Thanks Nathalie,  I do need to remember that this fear is normal.  It would be crazy if I didn't feel anything because surgery is a big deal.  I am not changing my mind because I know the benefits are great.  I am starting to feel a little better and will talk to Dr Taller before surgery and I am sure he will let me know how everything works out.

Hi there...!!

My surgery is two days before yours! I am having RNY.. I have chosen that one, most of the people I know personally have had it. I do know a lot from support groups that are sleeved, so your in good company.
I did not get overweight by having good habits... so it is time that I change them, sounds like you are in the same boat!
You have children to live for... I have a granddaughter to live for and possibly raise...myself... so I am committed to my life changing for my health and for Makayla.

Take deep breaths... you are fine. Nerves are normal.
I see you have lost weight, great for you!! You are determined!
You have confidence in your surgeon, that is wonderful.
Are you attending a support group? They sure help. You hear how others deal with stuff... and also you can exchange phone numbers with others... the more support you have the better. This does not mean you need to tell the world about your surgery... ( I tend to tell everyone....lol) but that you have a few that you may share with.
Many of us are on this site a lot... I tend to check this many times during the day... and after my surgery... if I am not sleeping at night... who knows... I will be on here in-between walking...!

Walking a bit is a good stress reliever. You do not have to go far... look at the trees... notice the leaves...
I have been straightening out my dresser drawers... and of all things... ironing... good therapy!!

See you in here... God will take care of you...!

I just got back from my walk.   Thanks and I do feel better.  I just need to stop stressing on it.  I am going to keep myself busy.

I do have a support group.   I can't wait for us to meet up on Oct 2.  I may get another one but I will be okay.

Thanks Again
Ann

Just like everyone else has said what you are going through is normal.  I have had many surgeries & this is the only one that I was scared about.  Two weeks before my surgery I became very emotional.  I think it started when I was getting all of my beneficiary stuff taken care of.  I have two small boys (Almost 4 & 21 months), I would just break out tears every time I thought of them growing up without a mom.   I decided to kept myself very busy and had fun with my boys.  I know how precious life is, there was a recent tragedy in my life.  A very close friend of mine was killed in a car accident on her way home from work.  It made me realize that life is so short & I have to be as healthy as I can be for me and my boys.  Oddly enough two days before my surgery, a calm came over me and I was fine.   You will be fine & everything will be ok :)

Good luck & I hope your nerves start to calm for you.

Thanks Michelle, it is nice to know that all of you felt the same and became calm before.  I little scared because I have never had surgery before, so I don't know what to expect, but I know I will be fine.

But I am keeping busy, taking the kids to the fair and the movies.  Will stay busy till the day comes.

Yes we all go through these feelings. The closer you get to your surgery date the more emontions you will have. I have to agree with Michelle, the day before my surgery and the morning of surgery I was very calm. The most calm I have felt with any surgery I have had. Yes, I have had quite a few. You will be in everyone's prayers. Please keep posting up until your surgery, we are all here for you.
