SoCal Kaiser
I had Kaiser several years ago, and recently went back to Kaiser. I have an appointment with a new PCP tomorrow, and I want to ask her for a referral to the bariatric department.
Does anyone know if she may not do it since it'll be my first appointment with her specifically, or if she'll just look at my previous medical records with Kaiser?

As a new Kaiser member, you are entitled to the same medical care as any other Kaiser member. If you qualify for wls, you qualify. Your new pcp should go by your present bmi and comorbidities, if any, and refer if appropriate.
There are some pcp's who are very negative about wls. If you get one *****fuses to refer, and your bmi is such that you meet the standard, established medical criteria for wls, you can file a grievance. There is someone who posts regularly on the DS forum who had to do this, and the grievance worked like magic. Or, you could switch pcp's, but you don't know if the next one will be any more accepting of wls.

I also had So Cal Kaiser was referred to the bariatric program on my very first visit with a brand new PCP and I had never had Kaiser before. He basically looked at my current stats and said that I qualified and sent the referral.
